when i get on the gas my car throws out white smoke and doesnt stop until i loose the gas, what causes this smoke?

 

White smoke is usually coolant burning. See if you can somehow smell it (like a sweet smell)

Or it could be just condensation or w/e from the cold

 

White is moisture if I remember right. Could be a bad headgasket. Check compression and do a leakdown if you can. Also check your oil to see if there is any coolant mixed in there, it will be milky if there is.

 

i checked the compression on 1 and 2 and their at 120-130. i opened my radiator and it looked milky brown. wtf is that from?

You have a blown headgasket most likely

Blown headgasket.

 

That is oil in your coolant, which is like the final stages of a blown headgasket. Your motor is toast, I bet when you take off the timing cover the plastic is gonna be melted together from the heat where the head meets the block.

Youre most likely a prime cantidate for a motor swap.

actually the plastic is fine, i guess i'll just pull off the head and put a new gasket. the motor was sitting for like 2 years could this be the reason why?

 

also this is on a z6 motor if that makes any difference. and can i use a hg for a 96-00 civic?

only if he's been driving his car a lot while its overheating. in his situation, i think the worst case scenario would be a warped head.

 

the car does overheat either, can the head gasket friom a y8 work on the z6?

 

dude just buy a head gasket for the z6 if ur going to buy a y8 head gasket....at least u know the head gasket will keep the same comp ratio changing it could make a diff comp ratio

reason i asked is because no where around me has the one for the z6, btw with the y8 head gasket will my comp raise or drop?

 

raise i belive... but if ur really that desperate it will fit it will do its job i was building a z6 with a y8 head and it worked just fine srry bout earlier if i sounded like an ***

Whats the first sign of a blown headgasket?...and how long would you have to drive with it to get a warped head??

As far as warping the head, that all depends on how hot you get it, and how many times you let it get hot and cool off again. If you have a warped head, the motor will still act like the headgasket is blown even if you just installed a new gasket. If that happens, go to a machine shop and have them mill a little off the bottom of the head to level it out and try to find a thicker headgasket to make up for the compression increase you would have with an oem gasket.

kewl...its good to know, i don't have a blown hg, but its worriesome to see alot of smoke from the exhaust, but i know theres hella condesation now because of the cold

 

ok pulled off the head and the gasket looks fine to me here are some pics:

 

in the middle picture your headgasket is blown. the one all the way to the left, where the metal is showing. there's no more black stuff to keep the coolant from flowing into the combustion chamber.

it was probably a slow leak that's why it never overheated a lot and u never got that much white smoke.

if you get a y8 head gasket for your z6 it will lower the compression, so try to find a z6 headgasket if u want your stock compression.

 

y8 gasket drops compression

 

I thought Y8 headgasket raised your compression because it's thinner.

 

ok i'm still getting smoke it looks blueish white. also i had the valve cover hose to my intake and i noticed my filter is full of oil so i put on a breather filter and eliminate the hose goin to the intake pipe and now the breather is full of oil and their is white smoke coming from the same breather filter.

so whats cause this blueish smoke and oil thing on my filter?
