Default tranny... type r or gsr with lsd ???

i was trying to search but i didnt get too much results... im planning on going all motor for my gsr... i have the stock one in there right now... and i was thinking about getting a type r tranny.. the 98 spec on since i heard it helps alot and also LSD..... but i hear that it will help my 1/4 time but it will make me slower on the track... and by track i mean like a road course... i dont really like drag so i dont really launch my car.. like ever ... but i was in a car with the type r.. and it seems like it pulls a lot harder... but not sure... can you guys tell me the benefits and losses.. for both trannys... and if you guys were me what would you do ?? keep the tranny and just get lsd or just swap it out... tahnks........

whoever told you a type r tranny would make you slower on a road course is full of ****...the tighter gearing woud benefit you both track and strip...should have asked them why would it make you slower on a road course

he said it was because you have to shift... like since its shorter i wont be able to go like 60ish on 2nd... like i would have to shift to 3rd or somethign... like thats just an example ... i dunno what speed exactly so yea im just saying thats what he told me... and i dunno it sounds pretty legit... correct me if im wrong please...

yea youre wrong.....the gear ratios of a type r/si arent that short to warrant making you slower because of too much shifting...now...if you cant drive...it can pose a problem...so yea probably your friend fits in that category..

well... some people put different gears into their trannies and sort of do a "frankenstein" tranny... whether it's for the better gear ratios, quieter cruising sounds... etc. if you were to choose between the two... i'd say go with the gsr since you already have it and throw the lsd in it rather than buying a whole other tranny

I'd say the best thing to do is go out and drive then decide. If you're looking to roadcross the car keep driving it as you add modifications. When it comes time to consider the tranny, if you're still not happy with your lap times then throw the type r on.

I think the best bet would be to talk to some people with a similar setup in the road racing/autox forum to see if an lsd in your gsr tranny would benefit you more or swapping for a type r tranny.

i went from a GSR to a b16 tranny (4.4) same as 96-97 type R gearing and it was the best mod i did to my GSR to date. it gets a from me. I say do it, it helped me A LOT in acceleration

b16 gsr and type r all have the same FD (dunno if you knew or not, cause you mentioned the 4.4)

unless u r racing in indianapolis or another 2 mile oval, you wold go slower sice ITR trannys have short ratios and top out at 180km, and racers set heri trannys depending on the track length , so if the track doesnt have long straigths id say go with a ITR tranny.

what??? the itr tranny tops out at 112mph....damn, i guess i have a factory freak?
where does this info come from?

take the itr tranny. it will be a great investment and a considerable improvement in track times.

is this due to the power difference between the b18b and itr motor? i've never mated an itr tranny to a ls motor before and didn't know it would top out so low. the 4.4 fd on c5 tops at 156 i believe, the 4.7 is prob in the high 140's.
