short ram intake install
Do i need a bypass valve for one of these? I live in CT and it does rain and there are huge puddles sometimes around here. I don't wanna suck water in.. but i don't want a full cai. I like the ebay style short rams.. will these suck water in?
No.... the rain itself won't do nothing to it....
If you try go through a flooded road... and the water is as high as your hood... then that would be a different story!
Short ram will work fine for you dawg....

can the stock intake suck in water if you go through a puddle up to the hood? Cus i have gone through puddles up to my headlights before on a flooded road.
Well you probably shouldn't do that but the stock airbox is semi-sealed and a small jug at the bottom and it uses rubber seals so it should be water tight to a point.

No, there's no bypass for a short ram. It wouldn't do any good. If you had a bypass, it would allow air to sucked in through there instead of the filter, and on a short ram that's about the same height.
In any case, even with a stock airbox it's recommended that you do not drive in water that's higher than the curb, and especially not in water that's up to the door sills. Any more than that and you're asking for trouble.
As far as what hydrolock means... Well, put it this way: Normally the motor is compressing air, right? Now fill the cylinders with water. Water doesn't compress. The engine tries to compress the water, so something has to give, and it's not going to be the water.
Many people are lucky enough not to suffer any engine damage, but do you really want to chance it? Just don't drive through flooded streets.

usally the rods its a bitch..i have a short ram on my civic its all good u dont have to worry about water the intake is right at the lvl of the stock airbox but in rainy season keep ur stock airbox its like a 5 min job going back and forth...here in sunny cali i sold my stock air box lol
i've hit water up to my headlights before. But yeah your right, my car sputtered and didn't like it all. But i guess i'll get a short ram even though they don't do anything but make the car look not stock i guess haha. Does CAI have more effect than a short ram?
