Default replacing tie-rod end...

ok i'm going to have to replace my tie-rod ends and have them ordered for tomorrow, is there any special tools i will need to replace them? I've searched around forums on it and have heard i might need to get a hold of a "tie-rod end puller", will i need this? what mm wrench do i need? how hard is it going to be to break loose the locking nut? is there any special or simple way to do this? i've tried a couple times w/ some channel locks and pliers but i have extreamly limited tools at the moment and just want to get this over and done with. this is all i need to do to drive my lude again after a whole year of agony. any help would be great

thanx

it owuld be much easier to loosen the locknut while the tierod is still bolted into the knuckle, that way you can easily get leverage on the nut. i am no sure what size the lude ones are but the accord ones are 19mm nuts.

Tie rods are pretty simple. dont forget to mark (or count the threads) where your tie-rod was so your alignment isnt off. Even if you mark it, you may still need an alignement. Unbolt the castle nut, Just smack the knuckle a few times with a hammer and the tie rod should pop out. If not you may need a tie rod puller.

The lock nut is either a 17 or 19mm. I think its a 19. Just crack the lock nut loose with a combination wrench, but don't turn it any further than you need to or it will mess up your alignment. Once the lock nut is loose just unscrew the tie rod end. It should be very easy to turn and you should be able to just turn with your hand. Screw the new tie rod end on untill it hits the nut. Tighten the locknut back up and call it a day.

yea the castle nut is a 17mm but my problem is is that the reason why i have to replace both my tie-rod ends is because when i try to screw on the castle nuts the whole ball joint spins w/ it, so the tie-rod ends are just flopping around when i try to undo the locking nut and i can't bolt it down (hence why i'm replacing them). am i going to have to spray any PB blast or anything on it so it'll break loose easily? i've heard they can be a b*tch to break loose (let alone w/o it being bolted down). what mm wrench do i need to loosen the locking nut? am i going to have to pull the whole tie-rod assembly out on both sides? is this going to require a special tool to do? Any help would be appreciated! i have only 2 hours tomorrow afternoon to get them both in before i have to go to work, and i really want to get it done w/ by tomorrow.

thanx
Richard

try hammering the balljoint into the knuckle that way it will keep it from spinning. if that doesnt work, just get an angle grinder and cut the ****** off

i already had a shop look at it and they told me that they were bad and that i had to get them replaced cuz they didn't have anymore grease inside the ball joint so you can't get it to set at all.

if you can get it loose a bit, get a pry bar to seperate the joint a bit and create tension that shoudl work
