The place i'm going to get my tint done at is charging 50 bucks for tint removal (mine was tinted by the previous owner of my civic, and its got air bubbles on all the windows, and its peeling off on them all too)...but i'm wondering if it is worth the 50 bucks to have them do it, or if it is an easy process?

the tinting places i've talked to say it's better for them to do it, but i dont know if they're just saying that because they want the money or if they're saying that because its true...

 

all you need is some soapy solution mix in a squirt bottle and a razor. have at it, but just remember u can scratch the glass sometimes, which is actualli very hard to do so u shouldnt worry bout it.

 

Just let them do it. That way, if they scratch your windows or anything, they'll fix it.

 

Put some ammonia in a spray bottle....Spray the windows and cover with a black garbage bag...let sit in sun for 30 min and peel it off.

Works great

3M makes this tint gone stuff that works good.

 

The ammonia idea is great for the rear window. The sides you can get off by simply using a razor blade and peeling it off. Use acitone to remove the residue.

With the ammonia you don't have any residue.

Why scrape when you can spray, stick and peel.

Why risk acetone dripping on the door panels and rubber window seals.

P.S. Never scrape your back window if you have rear defrost...It will destroy it.

 

i've done it, it sucks, id pay 50

 

I've removed tint on a few cars. For side windows I've sprayed the windows with Tuff Stuff carpet cleaner, let it sit, then scrape it off with a razor. The back is a little bit more tedious because of the rear defrost. I used the carpet cleaner again and blue Scotch-Brite pad (the kind with a sponge on one side and a rougher texture on the other). Do NOT use the green one, it will scratch your window.

I was told by a tint shop to use the carpet cleaner, done it with 3 or 4 cars now including my own, never had a problem.

Helps if you have some beer to go along with it.

I bet the tint guy is hoping you'll do it yourself. $50 isn't that much for the pita factor involved.

 

My friend used a steamer to get his tint off. The steam and heat cause the glue to become moist and allow you to pull the tint off. He did have to scrape a bit of residue off afterwards though. Let the shop do it for $50 and save yourself the trouble!

 

maybe b/c i've done it before and it was pretty easy thing to do, it is a waste of $50 to have them do it. like others said, use razor blade and some solution in a spray bottle and do it yourself.

 

if it is on the back window be VERY carefull to not hit the defroster lines.... the rest is cake walk i used sparkle (windex substitute) and a razor blade its easy if you have about an hour and a half to waste
