Default rattle

My lude has an exhaust rattle from 2k to 2.3k. My car sounds so ricey in this range. I checked for a loose heat sheild but found nothing. I am running a dc sports header to a megan racing resonated test pipe and stock piping and muffler from there back. Any ideas on what the problem is?

The problem is your wack setup. Stock piping and muffler?

Hope you're not going for performance. Get a catback or a custom exhaust.

How do you have the test pipe connected to your exhaust?

ALso check your exhaust mounts/hangers. They should be held up with rubber things. The rubber insulates the noise - if those are not hooked up(mine weren't) they could cause rattling - from it hitting the bottom of the car.

The test pipe connected with a 3-bolt flange(same as what honda uses). All the rubber hangers are there and connected. I guess it could be my cai but i have messed with that a number of times too with no luck....

Make sure its nothing actually INSIDE the exhaust. I know you're using some stock compents - so something inside the muffler could have been rusted.

Yea i was wondering if the increase in flow from the header and test pipe could have blown out the packing in the muffler or atleast loosened it up. Also I know the megan racing test pipe is not of the highest quality, so i wasnt sure if that could have gotten fubared along the way.

it sounds like your exhaust is hitting the heat shield under the car. are your hangers getting old? if they get old and loose (no sexual jokes please) they have more flex and allow the exhaust to move around more, and that could cause the exhaust ti hit the shield.

sometimes when you put on a header you need to push the exhaust back to fit the header in there. if you do this, sometimes the exhaust doesn't settle back to original position right, and that could also cause your exhaust to hit the heat shield.

to find out where its coming from, jack up the passenger side of the car so that both front and rear wheels come up off the ground. mave a friend sit inside and rev the engine, give it full throttle to shake the exhaust the most, and listen. once you pinpoint the problem, we can give advice on how to fix it.

wow that was a little more than i meant to write... but hope it helps.

test pipes resonate at around that rpm range
sounds like a tin can

also dc headers are known to crack the welds on the bracket before the flex pipe
