D16Y7 transmission
I need to get the two countershaft bearings off. I don't have a puller as shown in the Helms, and I don't have a press. Is there another way to remove these then reinstall them without these tools? I'd like to finish my gear swap and final drive install tonight if I can.

in my d16z6 trans I turned the gear setside down and tapped it on a block of wood(the gearset) the weight of the gears slowly helped press the upper 2 bearings/upper gears off.
Just my 2 cents and cheap way of doin things, hope it helps

All the 3-jaw pullers at Autozone, the jaws are too big to fit in the gap. I took the countershaft in to try them all out.
98DC2R, can you do a quick paint illustration of what you are talking about?

I'm not sure if Harbor Freight, Tool Warehouse, or Northern Tool have bearing splitters or one of sufficient variety/size.
This kit looks promising...I find myself needing a push/puller instead of a 2-/3-jaw puller when i'm pulling the differential bearings.

-I just don't know if the splitters are big enough, or if it really is that cheap because the Stinger line is the most affordable that OTC offers.
You can try Googling for "Lisle or OTC bearing splitter". You can also try looking up the OTC part number from their website ( http://www.otctools.com ) and googling that to find the right size bearing splitter size. You should get a splitter with a maximum spread of the largest bearing you foresee yourself pulling (within reasonable cost, of course).
I got my OTC splitter from Tool Source. It was the lowest price I could find on the internet.

Thats what I was thinking of. I rented a 3-jaw last night, but wasn't sure if it would work or not? What do you do as far as reinstalling the bearings?
at home i just use the press. at the track we just slide a socket over it and beat it down. thats what we used to do but now all our countershafts are machined down so the bearings are slip fit instead of press on.
