What do you think about my rod choice?
I'm rebuilding the engine and so far I've got a knife edged and balanced crank and some 82mm JE 11.5.1 pistons. What I'm thinking of doing is getting some Crower rods but since its going to be allmotor and I'm only planning on 220whp-230whp is that over kill? Should I consider a cheaper form such as Eagle rods? From my research it just seems that Crower rods are some bad *** rods and probably the last I'll ever ned to buy. Thanks
get the eagle rods, im shooting for 220whp and EDIT:they have been tested up to like 600hp ive heard..i wouldnt spend the extra money on some rods that are 300 hp over what ur shooting for personaly

I hear what you guys are saying about getting the Eagles. I guess what I want to know is the weight and strength difference. Obviously the Crowers are stronger and lighter from what I've gathered but is there going to be any gains in power using the Crowers if they're lighter? I would assume so but I'm just curious if it will be noticeable or not.
Yep, they are like 410gram for a GSR rod so very light, and also plenty strong enough for an all motor build. So I think they are a bit lighter than a set of Crower maxi lights and about the same cost. But then Cunningham also is another choice for light rods in the same price range, around $700 for a set.

Yeah I hear what all you're saying about the money but I've got a chance to get some Crowers for $450. I also can get the Eagles for $250 so do I save 200 or do I dish out the cheese?
honestly if ur not making a SERIOUS power engine i'd save money and get eagle rods and put that 200 bucks to something else u need....thats wut im doing at least
My buddy is shootin for 300whp in his boosted ls vtec and he got his eagles in the mail a few weeks ago, their still good **** altough their cheaper

Good to see you saving your rod money on "other" good things. How much are "neon" lights anyway? Or are you saving up for titanium valves?
Thats pretty funny DonF. I think you may be one of the few who understands cheaper is not always better. Eagles are good but for the price I might as well buy the last rods I'll ever need.
You have to draw the line somewhere, i would honestly put the money somewhere else, OEM rods hold up to all-motor abuse without a problem, if you go all out on every part, you will run out of money real quick. Eagle's with the 3/8 bolts are fine. You are better off spending the extra money on a rod bolt stretch gauge, since many rod failures are mistorqued bolts.
