Are ITR clutches deffective?
i'm reading somewhere that itr clutches are deffective and have problems with the rivets coming apart.
is this true?
has anyone experienced it?

They did supposedly make a change in the pressure plate from 2000-2001.The newer pressure plate is suppose to be stronger than previous OEM plates.
I tried searching for a thread on this, as it happened to me and many others. I can't search any further than July 2001???
Someone even drew up a nice diagram of where the failure occurs in this thread. From what I remember, the rivet holds the little black pads to the pressure plate. The rivets can fail (mine did) and wreak havoc in your clutch. Happened to a friend with a 99 Prelude also.

I believe they are. My pressure plate snapped in a drag race and caused lots of damage to my engine. The dealer fixed everything under warranty.
I can't count how many times I've seen people with problems arising from the pressure plates. I'm one of them. Apparently the spring seats come loose and don't allow the clutch to fully disengage.
I'd say... "not exactly". I've heard accounts of them failing early (10k), but mine lasted 41k.
When it does fail, however, it does have a nasty habit of whatever friction material is left coming completely off the backing material - rivots or glue not withstanding. I don't know if it'd call that "defective", but I'd prefer a clutch to go out progressively and gradually... feeling slippage and chatter before it gives out entirely, even if it was only over the course of a couple hundred miles.

28,000 miles on mine (5 track events) with no issues at all.

Now I remember. It was the spring that broke. It got loose and caused madness in my clutch. Same thing happened to my roommates Prelude. It's happened to lots of people on this list.
I was just out of warranty too, approx 50K miles, but the dealer covered it. The car was driven "normally" too. No 1/4 launches. Approx 6-7 track events.

Just wondering if anyone who has experienced a clutch failing also drag raced their car? Drags definitely put way more stress on OEM clutches than what they were designed for.
I for one have never had a single problem with any Honda clutch, whether used in normal day-to-day driving or on auto-x or road circuits.

my stock clutch failed due to the spring coming lose and taking off all firction material from the clutch.....it was pretty much dead, i think i still have it at home somewhere, i'll try taking pictures...the clutch in there now is OEM and i think its on its last legs as well, i expect to drop in a new clutch around april.

No, ITR clutches are not defective. They're misused
gotta agree with you there. mine has almost 75k miles on it. it has been through some hard times but it still works. I suspect if I had misused it, it would be dead by now, much like any piece of equipment.
mine went out at 5-6K miles, yea it wasn't disengaging all the way and stunk bad of burning clutch, dealer said it was fried but replaced it under warrenty for a one time only deal.
I broke two ITR clutches in my hybrid.
The round rivet looking things, like backing plates for the friction surface on the p.plate came out and it wouldn't go into gear.
But then again, my friend has had the same one for like 2 yrs. and he drives harder than me. His is fine.
