Anyone here put a k24a2 in an ep3 with the 5 speed tranny?
For months I have been debating doing a k20a2 complete swap or superhcarging my a3. Of late I have been thinking about dropping in a k24a2, I think I read somplace that this engine mated really well with the 5 speed tranny already in the ep3. If anyone has any first hand experience with how well, or not well, this swap works please give me some feedback.
Thanks
Thanks
I do not know anyone who has done it, but I have been thinking about the same thing.
We already have the better axle ratio, and a lot of experienced people do not see a real advantage to the six speed unless you already have one.
You might want to contact Jack Harris of P1 Auto for his opinion. Something that stuck in my mind for years is that he was critical of someone's wanting a six speed transmission, saying it wouldn't make him any faster around the track.
There are lots of other people who like the six speed and think it's a good mate for an older K20A2's torque characteristics, however. (The K20A3 actually has more torque down low than the K20A2.)

Yep.
Down side to using the 5 gate is that the car's top speed is now gear limited, not drag.

the problme with the 5 speed in the k24's is the fact that the 2-3 shift brings the rpms to low... so for people making 220+whp your droppving below 200whp on your shift point, the 6 speed helps this dramatically, however you do suffer for shifting another gear. however the gains are great in drags...
after the 3rd shift everything else is the same.... so beyond 100mph you won't notice much.
ya dig?

I wouldnt have thought about this with the low redline of the 24a2, I thought it would function like the a3 and make enough tourque and power at lower rpm's to compensate for only having 5 gears.

I wouldnt be draggin it, just dd with the odd track time. Would the gearing limit any kind of highway driving?

It'd probally eat alot of Gas when you're hitting 80s... just a thought...
