Rust, Rear Quarter F'n Rust!
I had the car in the garage overnight to melt the ice off and noticed a spot of rust starting to form on the most common place these cars normally rust, the rear quarter just behind the wheel. Yea it is only a little spot right now, but once they start rusting back there it seems to progress really quick. That little spot will look like this by next spring.

It's dosent matter about that plastic peice really. the water accumulates on the endside corner and it rusts from the inside out. I have a 1994 LX that has rust in the rear quarter planel and I do not have the plastic lining on the fender well.

yup......removing the plastic only helps delay the inevitable...
for me, driver side just looks like the paint/top layer of sheet metal is rusted....its only a light color, and its defniantly surface rust. on passenger side, not much, but the paint is bubbeling...and then the bubbles pop, and you can see the surface rust on there too

I was told by several Body Shop managers that the problem of rust in that area was caused by several factors.
In the rear wheel well area:
Movement of the Bumper Cover over the course of time. The bumper cover is supported in the front by no more than a Pin/Slot arrangement and it more or less just floats there, rubbing the paint until it wears to bare metal.
In the Front Wheel Well area:
Boxed in section between wheel well and rear door. Poor/no drainage, water accumulates from inner wheel well body seams and can't drain. Condition made worst (and more prevalent) by new car dealers selling "Rusty Jones" rustproofing which blocked the drains all the more.
