Default TRANSMISSION - REVERSE IDLER GEAR BOLT WONT GO IN

Any reason why this wont go in, if i look into the hole i can see the other hole that it is supposed to thread into is farter to the non engine side of the tranny housing and rotated too. Why is this THAT far off????? And do I have to take it apart to fix it?

had that happen to me once. i took the case apart, pulled the reverse gear and shaft out. checked for debree and put it together. before i tightened all the case bolts, i slid a scribe into the threads of the idler shaft to make sure it had play up and down.

hth

the shaft is probably dislocated or the locating pin is missing. You will likely have to dissasemble the transmission and correct the problem with the shaft.

Why did you remove it in the first place? did you have the transmission apart previously?

You have three of them and most likely you misplaced them. They all belong in the spot that looks like the first picture, as you look into the bolt hole it has a grove were the steel ball sits in the you put the spring then then screw in the set screw.

there are only two detents on the outside of a B-series trans.....one for the 3-4 and one for the 5-R shift fork, and they are on the other side of the transmission.

if you do not know, shut your mouth......misinformation is not needed.

The reverse idler gear shaft resides in that location of the B-series transmission......ask me how I know

(i know you probly knew that, but im just ******* around)

BUT on a serious note: ZC1.8crx - he has the correct bolt and washer there. there are threads in the idler shaft for that bolt. not a notch for a ball.

thanks for the info guys, i took it back apart, the casing wouldnt come off and i found out because the final drive bearing was stuck into the housing so now my final drive is sitting in diagonal.

Will i have to take off the two towers of gears to fix this crooked FD??
