Default Soon to be boosted GSR Clutch question..........

I have a 99 GSR and i plan to boost it this winter and into the spring so that it is done by the time summer arrives....i have started ordering parts and i started thinking. My GSR has 55k on it therefore so does the clutch. I was thinking that if i was only tuning my car at 8 psi for now, would i need to get a new clutch to hold the power or would the stock one be ok for a while??

I would be making about 265-270whp i think on 8psi....it is a T3/T04E 60trim .63AR turbo that i would be getting. It would be on 2.5" dp and exhaust (is that big enough?) and tuned on Crome....i could list the set up, but there is no need...

What do you think?? Will the stock clutch hang in there for at least the summer or should i just get a clutch?? And if so, what clutch should i get....??

It came time for me to replace my clutch this last summer before i boosted, but i knew boost was on the horizon, so i went with an Action 2KS, a twin diaphragm kevlar disk. I believe they rated it for the mid to upper 200's in HP. Now, that im boosted, im glad as hell i did it. Its the perfect combination of a firm clutch, but it engages very similar to a stock clutch. If you dont plan on going much higher (in terms of HP) then i would recommend it. If not, Possibly a 6 puck , dual diaphragm is right for you.

I would really recommend doing it. My buddy is still running on the stock clutch making less power than you are planning too and his slips like crazy. The stock clutch does not like boost. Do it, you will not regret it.

I had an ACT Xtreme PP with street disc for about 8 months on my car, after boosting the car it was only a matter of days before it started slipping. I replaced the street disc with a 4 puck non sprung and I kept the same PP. Now it grabs like you wouldnt believe.

ACT Xtreme PP with 4 Puck disc

any of you ACT owners have that squealing noise? Started to squeal on me less than 2 months after I put in the HD.

I did back when I had an HD with SS disc. After I replaced it with the 4 puck the noise went away and hasnt came back.

What about on a D-series motor boosting 9psi. Think I should get a clutch? It grabs second hard as hell so it should be in good condition, but will it handle 200whp?

You will see a noticeable difference if you do upgrade the clutch.

So from what I'm hearing, people have only had the squealing problem with the 6-puck ACTs... I thought that it was due to improper installation, but I guess not. I really don't wanna have to get a 4-puck.
