Original belts and alternator?
I recently purchased an used 1999 Accord LX. I just noticed that the 2 belts that I can see easily were made by Mitsubishi. Does this indicate that these belts aren't the originals, or does Honda use Mitsubishi belts as original parts? Also, how can I determine if my alternator is the original or if it has been replaced? It's a Densco(sp?) 12v, I believe. Obviously, I don't have access to any prior service records. Thanks, Marc.
My 96 EX had mitsubishi belts and was serviced by the dealor, could be wrong but I think they're stock. No big deal really, if it breaks replace it. Alternator is the same deal.
How many miles you got that'll be your biggest indicator?

My belts are stamped Mitsubishi, you're correct, the alternator is denso, not densco. I'm just trying to figure out if these are the original parts, or if the previous owner had to replace the belts and alternator since 1999. The car has 69,500+/- miles on it.
Denso is the OEM supplier for that car, that model year. More that likely it's the original (they very seldom fail b4 the brush set wears out (replaceable). The belts will be difficult to scare up the info you need, b'cuz there were several vendors supplying belts to Honda at that time.
Anyway, it's a more "real world" to check the belts for cracks and dry-rot, rather than to guess their age.
