Default 19T water pump vs 22T water pump....

Hi

Could anyone enlighten me on the use of 19T water pump against 22T water pump on a high compression engine using a Dart Tall block? I understand that by using a 19T water pump, the spin is faster, thus the low rate of the water will be faster. Will this cause any adverse effect for the engine, say at high reving? I heard that by using a 19T water pump, the water will form bubbles at high reving (cavitates) thus causing the cooling of the engine to be ineffect.

Is that true? Anyone care to englighten?

Thanks

Lots of people run the 19t with no problems, but honda put the 22t on the vtecs for a reason. Over-engineered maybe? You say high rpm, but how long? Road racing, drag racing, agressive street use?

thats exactly it.
Since the 19T pulley is smaller it will spin faster, thus moving the coolant through the engine quicker, thus the coolant not absorbing as much heat as it should.

19t water pump is going to spin faster, which i think cools less efficiently at a certain rpm that an ls was never meant to reach, because the 19t pump will not leave the coolant in the radiator long enough to cool enough to make a difference. 22t water pump on the other hand is meant to see higher rpms thus is comes on vtec b-series.

I used to run Nissan sr20...they have a cavitation issue. Underdrive pulleys to slow the pump worked very well.

hi

wow..thanks for all the valuable advice...to compensate the coolant not staying in the radator long enough to be cooled, i will be using a long 3 fin radiator, does tt help the issue of the coolant not stayin long in the radiator?

The more impt thing is the cavitation issue. Will using a 19T water pump cause cavitation issues??

using a 22T water pump helps prevent cavitation and also keeps the coolant moving slower at high rpms. Which means it will stay in the rad longer and absorb more heat while travelling through the engine.

It will also help reduce pumping losses and make it more efficient...

you should be fine, it you have any problems, it will be when you run at 8k rpm for an extended period of time. You shouldnt have a problem with it for the most part though.

the 19t waterpump cavitates after 7500 rpms
