New Exhaust: Metal ring?
I am about to install my trust PEII tomorrow, and it comes with the normal gaskets and screws, however it has a metal ring that goes with the hardware. anyone know where in the sequence of parts this goes? i can't read japanese

This is most likely what it is.

can you elaborate on this? are you saying it goes between the cat and the b pipe?
Also, the flange on the b pipe to the cat is different than usdm cat flanges. I've been having a heck of a time finding something that is strong enough to drill the holes on the b pipe larger. But the tempered steel is just too strong. any ideas?

yes, the metal gasket hooks on the back of the cat. on the cats instead of the older ceramic, metal, paper flange gaskets on the obd2 cats (which i have only seen) there is a small circle indentation on the back part of the cat (where it hooks to the front of the bpipe) and it goes in and when you bolt it all down it seals the system. many miss this gasket since if your not paying attention you wont see the indentation and alot of times people just use a paper gasket or the red gooey stuff to seal it... but once its used it has to be replaced aswell.
as far as your drilling part, not sure what you mean... ??? pictures would help... also carbine drill bits should drill through harden/tempered steel ...

thanks for the follow up.
What is going on with my exhaust is, the B pipe triangular flange (flange that mates with the cat) doesn't match up to the cat bolts. The holes on the b pipe flange are set apart too wide by about 3-4 mm. i need to widen the holes inwards (towards the piping) to make it fit. Thing is, the flange is about 1-1.5cm thick and i was too aggravated this afternoon making multple trips to the hardware store, to kragen, and finding out that grinding bits that i bought just got eaten away by the hardened steel flange (even though i asked the home depot guy if this particular grinding bit was good for tempered steel).
Thing is, i can't really use a drill bit because i don't want the hole diameter widenened evenly on all sides, i just need the hole extended in one direction only. Next time i go to home depot im gonna make sure i get something that will do the job.

ok so what your saying is the cat and the b pipe holes dont match up. easy fix, just cut the cat part then reweld it.. cost will be around 10-30 bucks at a muffler shop and this saves your b pipe from any mods..
or what you can also do is this. match up the rear part of the cat. so the triangle is the same. then cut and turn the front part of the cat, and reweld.. this is what i did on my civic.

i know what you are talking about, but, lol, my problem is actually simpler, i just dont want to take it to a shop and have them pay for something that i can do.
it's not the orientation of the triangular flange that is off, it's the positioning of the actual holes in the flange. The flange lines up correctly, triangle to triangle. the bolts do as well. however the holes in the b pipe flange are further apart. so i just need to widen the holes.
yeah i could always take it to a shop and get the holes widened, but i was looking for a bit that could do it so i could save money. i'll probably just end up taking it to the professionals who have all the right cutting/grinding tools to widen the holes. thanks for your help.

lol i still dont get what you mean...lol if the b pipe is made for your car there is no way a company would make you get the holes wider. eitherway, good luck lol
