Default 16" wheels slow u down?

I wanted to know if putting 16 inch wheels on an itr will slow it down in accelerating?

Has anyone noticed the difference?,

is it worth having 16" wheels that are going to look a little nicer, if their going to slow you down. Also is there a big difference in ground clearence when you have a 4-1 header?

16".. wont slow u down too much..

if it's not heavy *** chrome rims..

for example. JDM 16" ITR rims.. vs USDM 15" ITR rims. shouldnt make THAT much of a differance.

as far as clearance issue.. unless u run like the thinest side wall.. .. u should have more or same ground clearance

Simple anser: yes. Long answer: no.

A heavier wheel takes more energy to "spool up". Sixteens are generally heavier... but not always.

Another factor is that the metal of the rim is farther away from the center. It's like an iceskater that pulls her legs in and then extends them. She spins faster with her legs in (like a smaller rim).

HOWEVER, if you actually end up with a significantly lighter rim and tire setup you could actually make your car faster.

Be prepared to spend the big bucks on some forged wheels and you should be O.K.

I'm putting 16" chrome wheels on my car. Seriously.

Weight is a non-issue really.

Just put your tire size in a gear calculator and see how it changes your speed/RPM.

A 205-40-16 has a smaller diameter than a 195-50-15. The stock size on the Type R is 195-55-15, therefor IF you were to do a 205-40-16..REGARDLESS if you have chrome wheels or not, it will not make you slower.

Sure it could, and especially if they are Chrome.

Rotational mass is different.

Rolling diameter alone is not the only issue.

Any search guru's want to post that realllly old post with the very informative story/test on the two options (15's vs. 16's). IIRC it covered the friction vs. size debate. Oh, that sounded weird.

Understatement!!! And it's ok for your car I guess. It's not a ITR
and why is it that almost every post I make, you quote then disagree?

Did I quote you? Does it matter if its an ITR or not? You are truly the biggest elitest I've ever talked to.

Talk about a mess!!! 195/50-15 and 205/40-16 are sizes typically used on older Civics, not Integras.

The stock size on the Type R is indeed 195/55-15, which is about the only thing that makes sense in this post.

If you get 16" wheels, the proper size tires to use is either 205/45-16, which is slightly (0.8 percent) smaller in diameter than stock, or 215/45-16, which is slightly (0.7 percent) larger than stock. The slightly larger size will give you slightly poorer acceleration in each gear, and the slightly smaller size will give you slightly better acceleration in each gear. However, we're talking about tiny, tiny differences, so small that for all practical purposes they're insignificant. (Same thing is true of weight differences.)

Another difference between 15" and 16" is tire availability. 16" sizes typically don't have as many choices. Depending on what tire you prefer to use, it may or may not be available for one size (or the other).

1. Maybe not quote but spoke on and commented chrome 3 minutes after I spoke of it in a jokingly manner.

2. Never insulted your car, Chrome and Itr don't pair up so thats what I was meaning by it's ok for your car.

3. Your little comment is funny, but hey, opinions are like A$$HOLES, we all got'em!

4. "I've ever talked to".. HaHa you have never talked to me ever.

We need a new forum:

Integra Type-R n00b

...in addition to this one.

However, even this thread should be locked in that forum.

What did I say.

Now, am I not allowed to talk about what kind of wheels I'm getting for my car in a public forum? You said it yourself, opinions are like ********.... Your opinion is chrome doesn't belong on ITR's. Why? What if someone wants some chrome wheels? Does that hurt the ability to drive the car or sell it? Or is it just because you have an ITR with all these JDM goodies and think that you are too good to have chrome wheels? If Volk or Mugen came out with chrome wheels and everyone started getting them, I think your opinion would change. If you're going to talk about weight, don't even bother. I've never seen you at one autocross or heard any talk about a track event you participated in. That being said, I don't have a problem with you. I just don't agree with some of your opinions, just as you don't agree with some of mine.

NSXtasy pretty much summed it up in a nutshell. I'd simply like to reiterate that you will more than likely NOT feel those minute differences in size. If your really bothered, simply look up the formulas to calculate rotational mass and spin weights.

I've also gone from stock 15" R wheels, to 17" gram lights, and now 16" R wheels. The only thing I've noticed is Im not all over the road with those direction (and wider) tires I had on my Volks.
