New S2K owner with some questions about stock performance and other issues.
I recently got a great deal on a 2001 S2K and am wondering about a few quirks. First off, is it normal for the car to puff a small amount of smoke when you hit 6k rpm? There's no performance loss at all, I just happened to notice when I looked in the rear view mirror while spanking a Del Sol. Second, I notice that on the highway the car pulls to the right when accelerating hard. Is that normal? The car only has 40k miles on it and is virtually new with the factory hard top. It's truely a sweet car.
First, don't waste your gas on Del Sol's.
I wouldn't really worry about the small amount of smoke.
Lastly, check your tire pressures. If your pressures are ok, then you will need an alignment.

You think alignment will cause torque steer? All the tires were worn perfectly even when I purchased it before I replaced them. And it doesn't pull while holding a particular speed. As for the Del Sol, I just wanted to see how bad I could beat him besides, he was asking for it for a mile before I gave it to him.
Accelerating hard and pulling to one side, causes:
1. Tire pressure varies from side to side
2. Alignment
3. Your shifting needs work, it is not smooth
As per the smoke, what color is it? It is not normal to puff smoke at 6k

Yes, I think it did sit for a while before I purchased it. It only had 36k when I bought it and it's a 2001. I picked it up about 2 months ago. I can't tell if it's blue or white (the smoke). After I flog on it a couple of times, it goes away.

Well, I don't think it has anything to do with shifting because I can be in 6th gear and cruising about 70 and if you gradually accellerate or punch it, it pulls to the right. As for the smoke, I can't tell what color it is but it goes away after running it through the gears agressively.
Tire pressure or alignment is your problem with the pull...
Smoke is not normal...and im guessing if your pushing the car really hard, the exhaust that you typically CAN see under heavy throttle will not be noticed by you in the drivers seat. I would certainly have it checked out...
Are you sure its not steam your talking about? Condensation from the exhaust system that goes away after the car has fully warmed up and has been driven a little while? That should be noticeable immediately upon starting the car and usually has no smell to it.
Blue smoke is very obvious.

The car is fully warmed up. As you know, If the car isn't warm, it won't perform the timing change at 6500rpm. I guess it could be steam but I do recall seeing it in Sept when it was still scorchingly hot. I guess I'll go get it checked out. Thanks for your input......
look into how long the car was sitting...
i know that my oem exhaust was sitting in a garage for a year or so, and when i re-installed it on my car it smoked for about a week...it could just be dust that has to burn off...
