I'm in the process of dropping a ls motor in my hatch and I want to retain the a/c without buying a bracket for hasport, trying to save some $. Here's a link to modifying the A/C bracket: http://www.geocities.com/crxls18/ACmod.html
Have any of you done this? Has it been successful? Correct me if I'm wrong but this mod is done so that I can use my d-series compressor on the ls block, right? The last pic of the left looks like a b-series compressor that's why I asked.

 

I did something similar to use a Sanden compressor on
the PR3 bracket that came with my B16..

Two of the four bolts actually line up so I ground,tapped
and added a third bolt which I considered good enough..

I did have to beat a dent in the top of the crossmember to get
it to clear the compressor.

 

to think people call ef'ers ghetto.. this is backyard engineering at its finest!

...as for me, i just use the two that line up.. works fine for me
