need help removing a broken bolt...
I have broken about ½ the length of stud that holds the exhaust manifold (header) on my block. Any suggestions? I’m not sure if I should take a vise grip to it or just have a machine shop remove it for me. Cannot fit any sort of drill in there so the EZ-out extractor set is useless. I want to remove all of them an jus use bolts instead while I’m at it. thanks in advance

If you can get a nut on it to weld, that should work great, i'd spray the stud with some pb blaster for awhile first though, to at least let it loosen. Then tack weld nut and wrench.

a nut should work fine, vicegrips work too, hell ive had it where it shears off and then came back the next day and took it out with my fingers, (ok that only happened once) but just depends how bad its fused in there -
i prefer the strap because i can run a bead all the way around the shoulder as opposed to just the end, and the strap sits flush to the surface so it cant twist and or rock off axis which will shear whats left of it off flush.
its not the only way, - ive just had mixed luck with other methods, like anything else it trial and error over time, but this set up hasnt failed yet.

I had that problem on a turbocharged RX-7.
I used a die grinder for about 3 days and finally got it to a point I could remove most of it by sticking a screwdriver into the remnance of the thread.
