Exhaust question. How much better is mandrel bent? Worth it or not?
I need to put an exhaust on my project hatch but am having a bit of trouble.
I was planning on buying a muffler and a resonator, and then having a local exhaust shop build an exhaust for me. I picked up a muffler and resonator a few days ago and started calling around to find a shop.
Turns out that supposedly no shop in Oregon has a mandrel bender or has access to mandrel bent pipe.
So, I either have to buy the Kteller piping kit and use that (overall cost will be just as much as buying a pre-made exhaust), or I have to just fork over the $500 it will cost for a premade exhaust.
Or, my other option is to just have a local shop weld up an exhaust for me using crush bent pipe.
What would you do? What did you do?
There are a lot of people around that have custom exhausts, I always thought they used mandrel bent pipe. Am I wrong? Do most custom exhausts use crush bent piping?
Lastly, how much better is mandrel bent pipe than crush bent? Is there really a performance gain to be had between crush and mandrel bent piping?

Find a shop with mandrel bender within 2 hours. It is worth it, crush bend will not flow as well. KTeller isn't bad, I like my GReddy SP2.
Good Job for trying to do somthing custom and trying to do it right with mandrell bent. However, I love my sp2 it sounds great, paid about 520 with tax at modacar.com. about ur question, I would say go either kteller or premade don't go anything other that mandrell. Its not even worth ur time or money.
What size Exhaust do you want? If you have to bring your car to a exhaust shop to have it done why not order 3-4 180* mandrels and have them make your exhaust out of that. Try and find someone local with a chop saw and mig, that can help you out its not that hard to make your own expecially when you order mandrels.
