Default B16-T at 26degrees total timing

right now b16 is running off a stock ecu with just an FMU, and retarded the dizzy 2 degrees. Since the total timing on the stock ECU is 28degrees and I just took off 2 degrees from the dizzy, I should be at 26 degrees total right?
Well my car has been running fine at 9psi and 26 degrees total timing for over a year.
Im tuning it next week, does that necessarily mean I can run 26degrees total at 9psi when I tune it???

For one, the stock total timing for a B16 is much less than 28 degrees.

Maybe in the timing tables... Play around with a timing light on the dyno at high RPMs with a stock ECU / Crome / Uber / Hondata S200 (dunno bout S300) if you want your heart to skip a few beats...

I would rather have it stay right on pace.

And if you don't know what he is talking about or want to know, it is more likely in the 30s when you are in boost. Since you aren't controling it.

What are you tuning with? A fmu and dizzy? If you are good luck.

I was only trying to help out the original poster, not trying to provoke smart *** comments, but I seem to have accomplished the latter first.

What do you mean? Say you advance your dizzy by 2* doesn't it just advance the entire timing map by 2 degrees? Like say your timing in a certain cell is 20*...would it now be actually firing at 22* advance instead? I hope so because I am running a y8 dizzy on my z6 head and it throws the base timing way off and I had to actually add a lot of timing throughout my entire map to bring the base timing back to 16*. Is my timing way screwey now because of that? I'll have to get on the dyno with a timing light and check it out.

or are you just saying that the timing changes dramatically from the maps after all the different corrections are applied through the ecu?

I think he is refering to him using an FMU setup, and not actually having the Map sensor see boost, he is probably reading from a few colums less? But not sure.

Well it should just be reading from the last column. I was just wondering if screwing with the base timing at the distributor does anything different to your maps other than subtracting or adding a value of timing to the entire map.

Yea I thought that too after posting that, so that leaves me questioning too.

screwing with the dist will subtract or add from the base map. it should be reading on the last column, but i have seen cases due to barometric pressure changes or altituded changes where the car wasn't in the last column. this was on an n/a but same principal applies here if he has a map sensor pressure bleed or blocker.

Last time I checked, OBD0 PR3/Pw0 ecus DO call for about 28 degrees total timing. All the newer b16's ran much less timing

Yea thats what I always thought was that it would add or subtract from the entire map and thats the rule i've always used when needing to make adjustments to base timing. I was mostly wondering what Blundar meant by his comment. I think he means that the timing changes far from what your timing is in the maps due to correction factors.

You are correct, I was referring to the newer ones. I don't think he specified what year. But either way its cool.

i have a 2000 b16 running on a socketed p28 with Uberdata. I'll probably just run about 17* total timing at 9-10psi. That should be safe enough.
