Default Any turbo inlet filters....like super low profile foam sock?

Does anyone make a filter thatll fit right over a 3" turbo inlet so theres some sort of filtration without taking up the space that a cone filter would?

as far as i know, you;re only option is some kind of screen/mesh wrapped around the inlet.
i think you'll find any decent flitering material will have way too little area and pose a restriction if used the way you're talking about.
why do you need to do it this way?any possibilty of using piping leading to a filter located somewhere else?
you also may want to look at K&N's website-they have a TON of various universal filters in andy size and shape you can imagine.you may find one that will fit right on your turbo in the space you have.

what u do is just go buy a cone filter from auto zone or wherever and cut the filter and put it around the turbo inlet just like u would with a regular metal screen exept now u have the same filtration as a cone filter. just an idea.

but it's going to be too restrictive.any paper or gauze type element needs much more area than what you'd get by doing that.

to the original poster-any chance you could give us pictures of your setup so we can see exactly what you're working with?i'm willing to bet that K&N has something that will work.

I was thinking about this the other day and came across this.

Heres the link if the picture doesn't show:

I was thinking about running mesh on the turbo with a fine enough hatch to protect the turbo/intercooler. Then running this filter on the chargepiping between the intercooler and throttlebody. I'm not sure if it would seal under boost, but it might be worth a try. Power limit is 350 hp, though.

I can attest that this does NOT work. I cut up a K&N filter (thats 2 metal screens and the filter cloth), and clamped it onto my turbo inlet. I could not boost past 2 psi. However, I boosted to 10psi with ease after removing the filter cloth and leaving the 2 metal screens.

does it have to mount directly on the compressor housing? ideally you want a filter with a large surface area...if you can duct the compressor/filter and run a larger filter somewhere else that may offer better performance.

example...4.0 in. ducting on a mr2

ITG mfgs foam filters...never used one on a turbo car though...so dont know how well they work
