CAR WONT START****
so i bought this car home from NJ to NY fine. No problems Engine ran fine. The muffler is an APEXI custom piped and it sounded like it was backfiring too much possibly because of backpressure i was told. I put in new oil in the engine because the dipstick came up dry, real dry. The kid told me that the car leaks oil through what he referred to as the "o-ring". I also bought a new set of spark plug wires. A day or two ago the car wouldnt start. I had to boost it. Come yesterday and even with a boost the car wont start. It sounds like its about to turn over but then dies out. Sometimes it doesnt even crank it just clicks. My oil light, battery light comes on.
Is this possible alternator problems? Or will a new battery fix this?
Oh and my lights, radio and everything else turn on...so that means the battery is fine, right?
Please Help

did you install the wires correctly?
there's a sequence.. you can't just use ANY wire for ANY cylinder..
there should be numbers imprinted on the wires.. 1, 2, 3, and 4.
check them and make sure they are in the right places..
cylinder 4 cylinder 3 cylinder 2 cylinder 1

sorry.. im really bad with diagrams.. but hope this helps u

There are quite a few O-rings that could leak, sounds like hes refering to the rear main seal though.
Check the main relay ... its near the under-dash fuse panel, should be a bigger gray or black box. Turn the key to on while listening near the main relay for a clicking. If it clicks when you turn the key its good, if its not making any noise its probably bad.
The wires could be a big prob too like that other guy mentioned
Definantly try a battery too(at least test your current one_.

sounds like a battery problem...check the battery terminals for build up...friends car did the exact same thing...the starter kind just clicked...checked his battery and it was all gunked up...cleaned it and tuh duh! problem solved...so im assuming soemthing with the battery
i hear a click when i turn the key as well.
and as far as checking hte battery terminals for build up...umm what should i use to clean it?
its pretty old, im just going to get a new one and hopefully it works.
any other insighful opinions?
thanks for the help

change battery, if it starts then let the engine run for about 2 min then take off the positive terminal if the car dies right away then you need a new altinator. if not then all is good it was the battery..and as for he oil leak..sounds like its the main seals to me as well.
Yea I'd start with the battery, I've seen batteries be bad to the point where you can't even charge them enough to get them to start but your accessories will still come on. As for the oil leak, I'd spray the engine down with engine brite (mind the electrical components) and then once it's nice and clean and dry start it up and look for the leak when it's idling, if you drive it the oil will blow everywhere and you won't be able to pin point it. Yea there are several O rings, I'd start by looking at the cam seals and the distributor O ring. Which brings something to mind, if the Dist O ring is leaking you may have oil in the dist cap. Easy enough to check, just take it off, if it's not dry that's at least part of the problem. Good luck
Whats up dudes, drshottest718 is my boy, and yes we did the wires in the correct order because I know how it goes 1-4 starting on the driver's side of the car and I only took off one wire at a time
I'm thinking its the battery as well, but when driving it-it was making a popping sound which is what made me check the spark plug wires and one was completely broken.

Yeah, I'm going to have to say that you should still check your battery. I had mine do some funky things sometimes - one night I was out with my civic and every time I turned the engine off, the lights and stereo immediately died. I had to have it jumped 3 times. I then brought it home that night, cleaned off the terminals with... baking soda, I think, and a big brush, and it started right up without a jump
