where or what is a heat shield?
ok so i posted earlier this month about my car making a ratteling, kinda metal to metal grinding noise when i drive it cold, or just rev it up when its cold. It goes away when the engine warms up though.
i had many people say that it was an OIL problem. so i changed the oil and oil filter to 5W 30 mobile 1 full synthetic, with a K&N oil filter.
that didn't solve the problem.. =\
now i got a couple of people telling me that its my HEAT SHIELD..
problem is.. i dont know WHAT.. or WHERE that is.. so if you could please help me on how to solve this problem that would be great.. i drive a 96 INTEGRA LS (b18b1)
im one of those people who get annoyed by small things, such as little squeeks and stuff like that.

I had that same annoying problem.... if you jack up your car and look at your cat (catalytic converter) it has a thin housing around it... The cat is what connects your header to your exhaust if you dont know that already... All i did was unscrew the bottom part of the heatshield and leave the top on and put the screws back in... it doesnt rattle anymore
Here is what it looks like [IMG][/IMG]

but i have a question.. why would it rattle when its cold.. but stop when its hot? it doesn't make any sense to me..</TD></TR></TABLE>Hmmmm, the only thing i can think is that maybe when its hot the metal expands and closes the gap which stops the rattling....
