TOP SPEED
Ok I have a question about top speed . I know that street racing is stupid and all but I have noticed something about my car , that I am curious if anyone has this prob . I get on the Highway and my top speed is about 110 to 115 and thats it . I have an automatic , but it seems at 110 or 115 she wants to go but just won't break over that 115 mark. Is my car governed ? ? ? ? ? If so what are some ways of getting rid of it ?
Um my motor has 33 thousand on it . But anyways I am running a 2000 EX automatic . It seems like the motor just stops producing power to go over 115 mph . Its almost like the ECU is cutting back fuel or something .

2 weeks ago, i got up to just a tad over 130 in 4th gear on an interstate, chasing a maxima...
i was still accellerating when i shut it down cuz we were coming up on some traffic.
i still had another ~800 - 1000 rpm in 4th before i'd've had to shift to 5th.

Was in my friends 97 Del Sol VTEC last night and it seemed we topped out at 120. We were only revving 6300!!! There has to be a limiter on there...
130 in 4th??? That sounds strange???

impossible. sorry, but it's impossible on a stock motor with stock wheels, stock tranny, and no mods. Your speedometer doesn't even go that high and even if it did at 100mph+ your speedometer can be off by 10-15mph...
My stock 95 DX hatch went up to 120 in 4th gear, @ 121 it hit the rev limiter. When I shifted 5th is slowed down to about 112mph, no power to get it faster in 5th.

ive been over 120 in my 97 cx....completely stock.....i got it to about 135
no way in hell a 1.5 70hp cx motor will make a 97 do 135 mph... cept down hill with 100mph backwinds
Ive been to about 115 in my 96cx with 110k miles. Pulled ok in 3rd, then dragged 4th gear to about 115 until i was far enough away from the 02 Civic sedan to let off

If your car just won't push past that mark but it's still going, it's not your ECU, it's your motor that just can't push it that far. You will know if you have a Governer after it kicks in; it kicks in quite sudden.
just get a chip i hit 137 at 4000 and could keep goin buy dont wanna goto jail
all cars have limiters
on ur automatic u migh thave hit the limiter but ur tranny might not go any faster also u can goto a shop and have it adjusted and will go faster

i hit 140mph before... but i know why you may think it is governed, i used to think the same cuz the acceleration DRASTICALLY shuts down at about 115 in my car and slowly creeps to about 120mph getting slower and slower as it approached that mark... and prior to that the speedo is charging hard!! I think its a fuel cut-off or something like that... just something that reduces the power of the engine at higher speeds but doesnt stop you from accelerating altogether! FYI i did read somewhere that the auto LS is governed at 120mph and the manuals are governed at 130... and type R's are governed at like 135 or 140... but obviously its not the definition of "governed" that we have come to think of it as... its more like "slowing down acceleration", not "stopping acceleration".
