Default Both Tires Spin?

Hey...I have got a question...it might sound dumb but I need to know if the front wheels are supposed to spin together? For example...I have the car jacked up and I would spin one wheel but the other is not moving...and the other side is really hard to spin...is this right or do i have a problem? I just changed the outer boot also. And yes, they both are off the ground. Thanks.

That's normal. If you had a LSD then both would turn together.

they both should spin with LSD or not. However, if you have LSD they spin the same direction as opposed to opposite.

I was under the impression that LSD just gives the most power to the wheel with the most traction and open diff gives power to less traction wheel??

when would the wheels turn opposite directions??

when your car is off and hiked up on jackstands, you rotate the tires with your hands and have a friend watch the other wheel

HowStuffWorks can explain to you have differentials work.

Or get one of those F1 Lego cars. It's got a open differential in it, so you can see how the gears work. No joke, it's actually pretty neat.

open diff- will send power to the wheel with the least resistance

NON-LSD-- one wheels spins in one direction the other spins in opposite
LSD-- BOTH wheels spin in the same direction

for your ??? i have no clue why your other wheel wouldn't be spinning unless and axle is broke or the hub is locked or something really weird that i dunno. lol both wheels should spin whether together or opposite directions tho.

put that **** on the ground and drive it them you will know if anythings fucked up, and yes its ok that only one wheel turns when on jack stands , remember open diff= power goes to wheel with the least resistance.

make sure your caliper isnt locked up holding the wheel in place if not then yeah its brobly your hub or axle or something

i think a question to be asked here is when you say it's on jack stands and only one wheel spins, do you mean you have the car running and in gear and only one will spin? if so you are ok, open diffs do that. if you have the car on stands, not running, in neutral and you spin one wheel by hand then they should spin opposite directions. I'm not a 4th gen expert but i'm pretty sure if you have a stock tranny on a USDM 4th gen, you do not have an LSD, you have an open diff.

if you have it on stands and you spin one by hand in neutral and one does nothing, then you have a problem. have you driven it at all? anything like broken axle, hub, ect, would be noticeable.

what would happen if the car was in gear and i manually turn the wheel(while on jack stand and car not running).....this would mess something up rite? Damn!
