Default crx with mini me wont start

88 si bottom end
96 ex head with manifold
crower stage 2 cam with 95 ex camgear
obd0 dizzy (bolts right up)
obd0 pr3 ecu

car starts but stutters and sputters like a ****,

lined it up tdc about 4 times = just stutters when started
lined it up a tooth off to the left = same
lined it up a tooth off to the right = same

got new plugs new wires

throwing map code 3, used map on tb and hooked up the solenoid on the firewall farthest to the right, (using 91 ecu so it only looks for that solenoid)

THIS THING WILL NOT RUN. PLEASE HELP ME OUT

Is the pr3 chipped?

I tried a virgin pr3 on my mini me and it would never start, ended up staying with a pm6. That ecu was made for a b-series.

it needs to be off by half of a tooth

http://www.d-series.org/forums...=gear

read this....it will help you figure out where to set your cam gear...from the vague amount of info you have given it is all I can offer....

The only time you have to advance/retard a mini me is when you are using a d15 block. He said he has a 88 si block which would be a d16a6. Set it to TDC and start trouble shooting. The car will start and run if its a full tooth advanced or retarted either way so I doubt timing is your issue. Unless your a full 180 off.

Anyways, who chipped the pr3? Was the knock sensor disabled? If you still have your pm6 from your 88 plug that in and see if you get any codes. If anything that will rule out the ECU. Then move on to firing order.

Also what is the code on the distributer? I've never heard of any obd0 distributer bolting up cleanly to a z6 head.

First check to make sure the distributer is on correctly. It will only go on one way but I have heard of people being able to jam it on 180 off.

If the crank pulley is lined up with the mark on the lower cover then you know the crank is at least correct. If your not sure take the crank pulley off, there should be a mark on the shaft to line up with the oil pump.
Just like this:
http://4gcivic.net/gallery2/ma...Id=90

Since your using an after market cam gear its hard to say how to line that up. Do you have the stock y8 gear still?

Also, pull one of your plugs and smell for gas after cranking it a few times.

ok well is it just that i might need a 96-00 dizzy. cause i was looking at a 96 civic and the points on the dizzy looked like a diamond

and the points on mine look like this
0 0

0 0

we tried turning the crx dizzy to make it like the 96 but the leg hits a coolant line so it wont go all the way. could this be all it is???????

Was the car a duel point car? If so, make sure your Crank angle sensor wires are right.

If its a y8 head then the 88 si distributer is fine. I have the same head and distributer on my d15b2 right now.

Wait, just re-read your post. You are using the y8 manifold also? If so how did you hook up the IAT sensor?

extended the wires and put it in the intake,

so the dizzy should work then. by the way its throwing code 6 which is crank angle sensor which is in the dizzy, would this code disable the motor from starting even if timing is right

A code 6 could cause some problems with starting. Try and use a known good distributor and see if that remedies your problem.

That does not change anything. The only difference in the head would be the cam, if that.

There is a difference in the y8 intake in between the auto and manual.

From everything you have written it sounds like the problem lies in the distributer or the ecu. If the distributer worked before the swap then the first thing I would do would be to source a pm6 from someone just to rule out the ECU. Go get a working pm6 and go from there.

Also on a side note, what injectors did you end up using? the y8's or the stock Si ones? Cause if you used the y8's I hope you removed the resistor box.
