Default what most likely caused this damage? on a built motor

a d16z6 turbo and nitrous

could it be the timing or the nitrous, happened on a cold day 50 degrees out

Well it looks like it detonated, cracked the sleeve and the head gasket blew after the cracked sleeve.

I like your sleeves..

But really, 50 shot, stock sleeves, leaner conditions, detonation.

were the sleeves line bored after the block guard was installed? seems odd you cracked a sleeve with only a 50 shot. still shows alot of signs of detonation, but with that kind of damange it would have to be a nasty explosion. How much did you overbore? what engine management.

when it was tuned how hot was it?

could have been cold enough and leaned it out just enough so that when you sprayed it blew....

i didnt see anything about a 50 shot...I did see him mention it was 50 (degrees) out (side). He was probaly running 150 shot, if you look in his sig he claims to run 12's...if thats the case...probaly had a little to much timing, but definately detonation cracked the sleeve and took a bite out of that piston.

Temp correction should have taken care of that. It could have been slightly off with large injectors, but if it was tune conservative enough then i doubt it would have thrown the tune that far off unless he has insanely large injectors.

also, block guards do a really good job of concentrating heat at the top of the cylinder walls (where they cracked by looking at the pic) and restricting coolant flow. i could definitely see how a bit of detonation could crack the sleeves in conditions like that.

next time, try posting the block (see http://www.theoldone.com), or open deck. Andrea's car made over 600whp on the stock sleeves, but it was b-series.

sorry to see that ****. hope you get the car running again soon.

So when you say tuned for boost only, as in not for the nitrous use?? Were you spraying the nitrous the whole time, or just to spool it up. Nitrous would def. cause it to go lean and detonate.
