The proper size tire depends on the car, not just on the wheels.

If the wheels are going on a Type R, then you should get 195/55-15 or 205/50-15.

If the wheels are going on some other car, it depends on the car and its original stock tire size. For example, on an older Civic, the proper size is 195/50-15. However, if the wheels are going on some other car, you should be asking on that car's forum, not here.

I was thinking of going to the 205/50R15's myself. Is the added width that noticeable in the corners? Any downsides?

Then I think I'm going to start a topic here, on the ITR forum, about the most effective strategy for dealing with the situation in Iraq. I'm sure there are some people here who are knowledgeable about foreign affairs, so we may as well take advantage of that "vast knowledge and expertise" here!

P.S. Some of the same people here, who are knowledgeable about other Integras and about Wheels and Tires, also frequent the corresponding forums that already exist for the specific purpose of discussing those two topics. So the same "vast knowledge and expertise" is available on multiple forums on h-t.com...

When my R was streetable, I ran 205-50-15 on OEM wheels and liked them. No negative issues and the speedo reading was not altered much either.

Thanks for the straight answer. I didn't start the topic, but since the question was already out there, I got curious.

It's altered by 1.6 percent. Whether you consider that "much" or not is your call.

I like using 195/55-15 when it's available in the tire model I want, and otherwise I use 205/50-15. In addition to preserving the accuracy of the speedometer and odometer, 195/55-15 is also often going to be cheaper; for example, the Yokohama ES100 costs 23 percent more for 205/50 than for 195/55. Performance differences are fairly insignificant. But 205/50 will also work and won't rub. Not a big deal either way, and again, your call.

1.6% is 1.2 mph @ 70.

Uh, Yeah. I think that's acceptable. Most cars are 1-3% off with OEM tires!

The 205/50 is a little fatter with shorter sidewalls. Looks better on the R that the OEM size IMO.

There are a lot of variables that affect the accuracy of speedometers and odometers. For example, the difference in tread depth between a new tire and one that is worn down to the treadwear indicator bars is about 2 percent.

Still, I wouldn't want to add to that inaccuracy if I could easily avoid doing so. If your speedo is off by 1-3 percent, throw in another error of 2 percent and it could then be off by 5 percent...

195-55-15 is the OE size

However, alot of people use 205-50-15

So when you're cruising down the highway at 120 with your NSX buds, you don't like it when your speedo is reading 126?

So, you are saying that the tires will feel more squishy?? I would think that less sidewall and a larger contact patch would make the tires feel firmer. Are you speaking from experience? I was planning to go with that tire size (205/50R15) in a summer tire after the winter breaks.

I personally hated the Azenis 205/50-15 on the stock rims.
But on a 6.5 it was much better. I continue to use the 6.5 inch wide wheel for all my street 205 tires. My R-comps are 205/50-15 on 7 inch wide wheels and they feel GREAT

These are all tire-dependent. For what it's worth. (Rob, thanks for mentioning the street tire was a Azenis, which everyone seems to agree prefers a wide wheel).

Check the wheel diameter range recommended by the manufacturer for any given tire. If 6" is in the middle of the range, you should be in good shape.

I've used 225/50R15 on the stock tires (Autocross) and they worked fine. That was a Kumho. Others have used 225/45 Hoosiers. Not recommended by the manufacturer but it fits, and works.

With the sidewalls perched at a non-vertical angle, and the tread not quite squared off, a wider tire can feel like it has more play. Not sure about the technical reasons for it..
