B20 vtec vs H22: Performance and Handling
I searched and I didnt find much info. But while searching, someone said that their b20vtec beat an h22 everytime. Is this true? Slightly modifying each, such as stock pistons in the b20 and after market cams, i/h/e, on both h22 and b20vtec, would the b20 in a strait line? and what about handling? what is the weight difference? has anyone ridden in a car with both motors? what are your opinions? i want to go all motor and either do an h22 or b20vtec. I like the b20vtec because the swap seems cheaper. which would you choose? o yea, i want to put it into a ek hatch
thanks in advance
thanks in advance

Not to bash you H22 guys, I'm a former H22 owner myself. I really like it.
I've consistently seen B20/vtec cars running much quicker on the street than guys with h22's.
I think this has much more to do with the fact that the h22 gearing sucks (IMO) compared to the B series.

i dont' see the h2b to be an advantage, heres my theory
h22's gears r longer cause of the greater amount of torque compared to a b.
a b series tranny has short gears because of the lack of torque, so it has to stay in a higher rpm range
the only reason i would see a b series to be any better is the final drive.
if ur gonna spend a good 1500 to do the h2b might as well pay a grand or so and get a different final drive no? and then take advantage of all that f'n torque ina 2000 pound car i know i do

Why do all the SPFWD guys run B16/ITR gears with over 600hp then? Even Lookofski ran B16 gears in his H22 trans

In response to antivic.....
A car that has TQ can still benefit from shorter gears. The H2B package on an h22 is going to be faster than one without it!

I'm advocating the H2B setup...I'm saying that the H22 DOES benefit from having B series gears.

And my two statements, in no way, contradict eachother.

Oh, OK. I thought you were saying the opposite. I'm actually doing the H2B conversion now. I had the M2F4 and now I'll have the S80 (GSR) gear set. Before and after results will be posted
