Default steering wheel play

ok if i sit in my car and slowly move the steering wheel, it takes a while for the wheels to actually turn. anyone know what this could be? also if i wobble the steering wheel back and forth it makes a sound hard to describe the sound.

Sounds to me like a bad steering rack.

like a clunk?

check tie rod and rack end bushings. and adjust your steering gear box.

you have to jack the car, have a friend move the steering wheel, and feel around and shake things.

how long is a while? its normal for a manual rack to have a "little" play.

its makes a sorta clunk sound, thought it might be the mounting bushings on the rack. replaced the tie rods (inner and outer) and the rack end bushing too.
to adjust the rack you need a 40mm wrench or something like that, anyone know where i can get one of those. i tried to open it with an adjustable wrench but it wouldn't budge and i didnt want to mess up the nut.

i used a channel lock wrench. only wrench i had that was big enough.

i had to increase the length of the arms to get a bit more torque. stuck a large socket in each arm of the wrench, and stuck an extension bar in the socket to get more leverage.
