going to adjust my valves... need advice
so i'm going to attempt a valve adjustment on a jdm d15b... any advice, things to look for? i'm armed with the snap-on tool and a feeler gauge but i'm not familiar with what is underneath the valve cover. i know what to do but i don't which is the intake or exhaust... where to start? i've searched the stickies...still confused as hell.
The easiest way to tell the difference between the intake and exhaust valves is the undeniable amount of oil and exhaust "muck" in the exhaust lobes.
the exhauast valves are going to be the ones closest to you! The intake valves are on the back side (I/M is on the backside and the Exhaust is closer to you!) This is best done when the engine is cold. The feeler guage will go between the cam lobe and the retainer. any questions just pm.
Here's a quick "how to" thread:

I didnt read all the way thought that thread, but a few tips:
-Make sure your engine is cold
-The way they tell you to adjust valves in that article is: turn #1cly to tdc, adjust valves. Turn #3 cyl tdc, adjust valves. Turn #4 cyl to tdc, adjust valves. Turn #2 cyl to tdc adjust vaves.
But there is an easier way!
Turn #1 cyl to TDC. You can adjust all the valves on cyl #1. You can also adjust the intake valves on #2 and the exhaust valves on #3.
Now turn the crank 360 degrees and put #4 cyl at TDC. You can adjust all the valves on #4. You can also adjust the intake valves on #3 and the exhaust valves on #2.
Then your done.
*edit
Also, if you're standing in front of the car, looking down at the motor. The cylinder numbers are from left to right: 4 3 2 1

its on top of the spring it looks like a disk and in the center there is a hole where the valvestem goes through, right above it is the rockerarm you measure the distance between the rockerarm and the retainer center. I think you should have a shop do this by your previous posts, you dont understand well enough and could mess things up pretty bad...
I agree if you don't have enough mechanical experience you should not attempt this on your own. you could over compensate in either direction and either cause coil binding or go to loose and loose a keeper and end up having to rebuild an engine because you drop a valve.

thanks... i've been reading that thing for a couple of days now. i'm going to actually look a good look under my cover this weekend. the concept is pretty simple, it's just finding everything for the first time. we all need to start somewhere.
