what will lower hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide levels?
what can i do to prepare a car for emissions testing in which hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide levels are measured during idle and at 2,500 rpm for 30 seconds.
Play with your ignition timing. Advance your distributor to the full 18 BTDC and you'll end up with less unburned HC's. Not sure if that helps CO levels or not.
Do you have cam gears? Those can be altered too, but I'd have to think about that one..

one of my buddys civic was fully built and he wasnt able to pass emission. He dump 6-7 bottles of rubbing alcohol into the gas tank with a full tank of gas, drove it for 10 miles or so and pass emission with no cat. Ive seen a few people done this to there junk cars and they pass with bad 02 sensor....
I passed with a turbo and catless. Not that hard unless you live in CA

NO, he lives in NJ, you and i live in cali, they test cars different, obviously he has to get on the rollers too, i have seen some places that test IDLE emissions and then emissions at like 2500rpm.....its different not more strict

No, cali is more strict. Most of the other states that do test, only test what comes out of the exhaust. California requires all parts to either be stock, or specifically approved for that exact make/model/year car, in addition to passing the sniffer on the dyno.

bullshit, you can swap motors, get the swaps REFFED and be fine (assuming the US had an equivalent motor)....d00d you guys blow this **** way out of proportion. cali is not as bad as you guys make it out to be when it comes to emissions, i ran for 2 years, almost 3 with my b18a'd REFFED CRX and never got hassled by any emissions testing, i had to test it 2 times during the time i had the swap in there and i had aftermarket parts on it and i never once got hassled, the problem is people dont know their rights and they want to blame the LAW when in fact they just dont know what they are doing and then get all pissy when they have to change it

thank you.
denatured alcohol seems to be the way to go.
now should i bother changing the plugs before going or is the denatured alcohol going to foul the new ones and change the plugs after?
