What spark plugs should I buy for my 98 Type R???
I run the OEM S2000 plugs. They are made by NGK and are a 7 heat range as opposed to a 6. They are also the stock plugs found in the JDM ITR motors.

Do these plugs have the same gap spec as for the R? Why do you think it's beneficial to run colder plugs (I'm assuming this is a street driven car)?

The NGKs are WAYYYYYYY cheaper than the Denso Irid.
(I paid around 60 for the densos, about 8 for the NGKs.)
So you could change the NGKs 7 times for what the Iridium costs.
On my stock ITR I could not really tell a difference between them.
I returned the Densos
NGK all the way...

I made sure the gap was within spec, I dont think I had to change the gap but, I dont remember, its been a few months.
I have had 3 other JDM ITR motors in the past, one RHD JDM ITR and 2 in Civic hatchbacks, these were the stock plugs for those JDM ITR motors, part # NGK PFR7G-11. I believe this is due to the higher compression on the JDM motors.
I never said I thought that the colder plugs were beneficial. I used these plugs on my USDM ITR because I had them sitting around, new on my shelf, and didnt want to go spend more money on platnium plugs that were just one heat range colder. Also, I live in AZ and in the summer my IAT temps can go well over 130 F due to the ambient air being 110-120 F so I figured the colder plugs can't hurt. The car runs like a raped ape in the summer and winter so I dont see a point in changing them to the PFR6G-11 until I need new plugs.

Lots of turbo cars use the BKR7E (7 heat range) to avoid hotspots/detonation. They're cheap, you can replace them at oil changes if you like. I moved up to the 8 heat range racing NGK's.
