the reffre at school says "i cant start mixmatching parts" i.e. do a mini me swap here in CA and it still be smogable. that basicl leaves me in a pickle. stay "stock" w/ mpfi swap or whole new motor.
should i stay sohc or go dohc? d or b? obd0 or 1? i keep hearing that the b16 is" toqureless". if i swap out this stock motor i want plenty of toqure and power. yet i dont want a lot of custem fabing.
i still wana get stock milage (mid to high 20's or better) but when i want to i want tire smokin power
i dont go to the track but maybye somthing in 14 or 15 (i have no idea how fast that is so dont flame me
)
i would like to go obd1 eventualy. and this is a DD + CA smog =

Idea!! The power behind a mini-me (if use a D16A6 to start with) is the added compression above the standard D16Z6, so what you can do is take PM6 pistons, stick them in a D16Z6 block, and call it a day. Granted these are ideas created from a guy who never EVER EVER has to worry about inspections or smog

the ref is right. why not just go with a z6 and greddy turbo kit? thats gonna have good gas mileage, lots of power, and still be cali smog legal (after you ref the Z6)

Its the same situation here also. Hard to get legit engine what honda doesent know or exist.
Thatswhy pure B18C Dohc VTEC to fill my needs, and the referee's too.

ok please, dont comment on california stuff as you dont know, the b20 will NEVER pass referee because it came from a different duty of vehicle, the b18 would pass. i still say z6 turbo, its cheaper then a b-series swap, you will retain the MPG's and you will have plenty of fun, even with the small turbo on the greddy kit

Still sucks all the hoops you guys got to jump through and the smog problem has gotten so much better, with all these stupid laws for emissions around the country.

just FYI, cali sets the standard for emissions laws, said laws typically move into other states

if you get the valve cover that says honda and not vtec and dont hook up the vtec till you get home, then i dont see the problem. referees at least where i live dont know the difference by just looking at the valve cover

last i checked the greddy kit for the z6 was CARB legal, lemme check again, YEP it is, and its still faster in every aspect

just fyi, the d15b vtec motor you have in the poll won't be technically legal in CA either, because it was never available in the US.

referees check more then the valve cover, they check the wiring, the BLOCK CODE, vacuum line routing, etc...

I don't want to be punished for your air quality, especially since my state is surrounded by ocean on all three sides.

yes and no, he could ref the JDM D15B as a USDM VX motor, he would need to change the IM and use the VX ECU, and map sensor, then he could change all that crap back once he got it reffed as a VX motor

I vote for B18c.
And I wouldn't call Cali a benchmark for anything other than trying to solve problems they put themselves into.
ie. build a huge metropolis in a bowl

Agree with you Dr. But just cause Cali is its own country over there doesn't mean everyone else should be on the emission band wagon. Cali always has its panties in a bunch about emission they ought to get car to run on fruits and nuts out there they would never be out of fuel just keep throwing people into Mr Fusion. We all pay the price for there errors.
Hence why states are jumping on the emission bandwagon. Here in Charlotte they are close to loosing federal money because there emission haven't gotten better with all the emission testing that they are doing. Emission doesn't work anyways just slow the inevitable with the current fuel used.
