Default d16y7 tranny with d16z6 motor

The input shaft baring on my z6 tranny is going, and this guy has a y7 tranny he wants to sell me for about $100US. Now, I've read that the y7 tranny is really shitty gear ratios and will actually slow my car down...how much truth is there to this? Any other disadvantages? As far as I know, all D series parts will bolt up to each other just like b series ones will. Is that right?

yes, indeed ratios on the y7 tranny are pretty crappy along with even crappier FD. Needlesly to say, even at redline shifts you will fall out of vtec range.

yes 92-00 d-series trannies and blocks are interchangle some differences in mounting and overall look but defintaly will work.

I'd rather stop driving the car then go back to a y7 tranny. The gears are horribly long and make the car much slower than it should be.

Honestly, you're going to hate driving with the Y7. It's ungodly long.

Your input shaft bearing is located in the center of your flywheel, not the transmission. And even if it is bad, spend a few bucks for a new one and reuse your better z6 tranny, it'll be the same amount of work either way.

hmm..well, I got some quotes for fixing it, as I'm not THAT mechanically inclined...and to pull the tranny, fix it, and put it back in, would be around $1000....

why not just call you wrecking yards or JDM importers and get a 92-5 Si/D15b sohc vtec tranny or 96-00 1.6el or Si tranny. they are anywhere from $150-450

no, that would be the pilot bearing. input shaft bearing is on the other end of the input shaft.

Right-o. That's the pilot bearing in the flywheel. Input shaft bearing is on the input shaft just on the other side of the clutch housing for the tranny.

I'll check the local wreckers....but I'm located in canada, and customs and shipping on a tranny from the US would be pretty hefty. But a d15b would have similar ratios to the z6?

The y7 tranny isnt as long legged as the 70 hp CX hatch tranny. That will get you 80 mph at 2500 rpm. hehe. Once it gets there.............

I will be swapping out my y7 tranny with a y8 tranny that I picked up a while ago in the next month or so (maybe after new years). PM me if you are interested.

I am located in Richmond, BC.
