97 turbo AUTO trans/axle question
sup hontatech im new and i have a question about my auto trans..... my car is NOT stock (upgraded internals, fuel, etc) and was wondering if anyone knows how much boost the stock auto trans and axle will be able to hold safely as a daily driver.
From what I remember, now...correct me if I'm wrong, but boost, such as from a turbo, generally stays within the engine and doesn't press against the tranny or axles.
However, if you're asking how much POWER they can take, not much. Why do you want an automatic turbo prelude?

yea i want to know how much power the trans and axle will be able to take as a daily driver and the car is already turbo (thinking of swapping to stick) didnt know how to drive stick when i bought the car
Probably not much.. I don't think you'll find too many boosted autos on H-T, but it seems like a lot of 5th gen auto trannies die from stock power levels, let alone turbo power levels. I wouldn't push it too hard
My 97 auto trans went out about 2 weeks ago. And all I got is bolt-ons. It had bout 100k on it. I wouldnt give it much time, especially on boost.
5spd going in as we speak

With all that extra heat from a tubocharger under the hood i bet it would severly decrease the life of the slush box, and with the extra power the clutch packs would burn up. Dont waste your time and $.

ok so i guess keeping the auto trans is out of the question does anyone know how much it would be to swap it out to stick? if anyone has done this before pls let me know what specific parts i would need
You will need a new flywheel. And some electrical harnesses. Also Im pretty sure that you have to have a manual tranny ECU.
Definately ditch the AUTO. You would be lucky to have it a week before problems.
