Is my mechanic bullshi*ing me?
Ok I have a h22a automatic that I just swapped into my old h23 automatic. My mechanic says I have no passing gear (and I can feel it) When i'm going down the road and I want to get on it it just slowly accelerates, it doesn't downshift. He says that it is because the h22 was never meant to be an automatic, and he sees no way of making it work. I've heard of alot of people having and auto. He says it has something to do with my ecu. ?. By the way this guy is a certified honda specialist.
Never meant to be an auto huh? There are plenty of h series autos. What he probably means is that the h22 is a lot stronger with a 5spd. If you get the right ecu it should work right.
Actually i was wrong I always thought i had i p13 but i just checked it and in one spot it says f-0-9 and in another it says f90 have you ever heard of this?
when you did your swap, it should have come with the ecu, but not always. my auto swap came with the p13 and i had no problems. if the h22 wasn't meant to be an auto, why does it exist. for normal drivers it is fine but yeah if your gonna be rougher on the car it would help being 5 spd. make sure your tcu is funtioning correctly. what does the entire code on your ecu read
your ecu is

the h22 can be run with an auto no problem. tell your mechanic to bust out the service manual for the h23 auto and look up the condition that the car does not down shift based on throttle position
there are a million h22 autos out there, and it looks like your runing the right ecu, so tell you mechanic to just use the h23 manual to troublshoot the tranny shifting issue. the h22 has more power than the h23, it has nothing to do with the engine.

thanks I may look into it myself i'm so tired of taking it to a mechanic. at first he thought it was the throttle cable being stretched but he replaced it and it didn't make a difference.
I just had my trassmision rebuilt my TC is fine but i didnt have a passing gear before the rebuild either. I didnt think an ecu for a manual car could even run an automatic.
you should be able to connect pedals to the input shaft on the transmission and still have it downshift.
the tranny doesn't know what engine is spinning it, your mechanic is a retard.

a h22a is a jdm motor. the usdm is a h22a1 or h22a4. if i am not mistaking i think usdm h22 version were 5spd. jdm's are auto. i could be wrong though. check out ebay for a p13 auto's and it may be able to be chipped to get rid of the limiter.

In japanland the 4th gen lude's h22a was offered with an auto tranny, maybe tell your mech this or find an auto jdm h22 ecu on fleabay.

yes!
im wondering if that ecu is an auto or not. you could always just pickup a genuine jdm h22a auto ecu and try that.

You need that auto P13 ecu or else that engine will never run right or shift right. For one thing the Accord ecu is a singel cam engine and the H22 is dual cam as everyone knows. You are going to feel a huge difference when you put that Auto P13 ecu in. Did you pay someone to do your swap? if so go back to them and make sure they didn't rip you off and keep your ecu. GOOD LUCK!!
I did the swap myself, and when I started I didn't really know too much about the ecu's and stuff(not saying I do now),but I will definately get a new ecu.
