IDing a zex camshaft
hey guys i really need ur help. could anyone tell me what to look for to make sure a zex camshaft is really zex? like any numbers or anything to look for. or maybe u can tell me any markings on a stock d16z6 camshaft so i can see if this guy cheated me and sent me a bogus camshaft. thanks alot. i just received today and i wanna confirm its the rite one before i open up my engine to put it in.
There's no real way to identify it by just look, IMO. But who did you get it from? I bought mine from ZEX so it came in a white box with a ZEX sticker on it. I can't think of anyway to test it, besides going here http://www.compcams.com/catalog/192_193.html and depending on which cam you got (street=59100---street/strip=59300), measure the lobes on the cam and compare.
well it came in a box and bag but it was a used one so he could have just swapped his stock camshaft into it. how do i measure the lobes? like just use a ruler? there are some number imprinted on one end of it, but it isn't the model number (59100 or 59300). i just wanna make sure on this cuz i dont have a dyno or nething to test before/after, and i dont trust my butt dyno.
If it helps at all the stock camshaft on a 94 ex (d16z6) has silver lobes on it and the zex is completely black. I also bought the zex cam but I got it directly from zex
hey thanks alot man. at least now i can know its not a stock camshaft. the lobes on my are like still metallic, but their not pitch black or nething, but i can safely say that they are dark. are the stock ones like an obviously brighter silver? like if i take off my valve cover and clean off my stock cam i should be able to tell rite off that its not dark? thanks alot man. i can wait to drop these in
