Default Snapped a Belt

Well, I was driving today and I snapped a belt. I popped open the hood and found out it's the one that drives the a/c compressor. I am assuming that there is no risk of damage if I continue to drive the car for the time being. Is that a safe assumption?

during the winters, i just take off the a/c belt for better gas mileage and acceleration, and dont want to wear the belt out faster on my old civic.

then in summer i just put it back on since i sometimes need it, so you'll be fine

It's good to run your A/C during the winter every other week. The reason you do this is to make sure all the parts get lubricated. Have a compressor just sit there for 8 months without moving can lead to seizing.

Gas milage should only be effected with the A/C is actually on.

I had my AC belt come off this morning on the way to work. As I can see from this thread I should be fine to drive.

But my belt did not snap, it jumped off the AC b/c the pulley above seized. Belt is still on the car since it is around the lower driver's side engine mount. So should I cut the belt off or just pull it to the side till I get home?

And when I replace the belt do I have to remove the lower engine mount to put it on?

BTW b18c1 in a EG.

TIA

edit: And I know I should not run my AC, but is it OK to run the heater.

Yeah, fine to run the heater,

if your going to remove an engine mount, make sure to support the engine from underneath befor you leave it hanging.

i'd check my other belts while you're at it. just to make sure nothing else is loose/tight.

I will do that. So should I just cut off the loose AC belt and replace it in the summer?

just replace it when you have time... all my belts snapped or fell off at one point and my ac pulley fell off and rolled down the street. made me laugh.
