Back Purging- What How Why
Just wonder what the benefits of back purging are. What materials is it done with. Why is it done. How is it performed. Etc. Just tryin to get a grasp on the concept. Any input would be helpful and yes I did search the subject and came up with nothing.

its just running your shielding gas over the back of your welds when tigging. helps get better penetration, and keeps impurities from getting into the weld on the backside.
the easiest way to setup is to T off your regular argon line, and have a valve of some sort.
more complicated($$$) ways include another tank etc...
i probably wouldnt do it unless youre selling your welding...or need to meet a code, or are paranoid.

I'm going to be welding Sch. 40 304L SS for manifolds. I will also be welding 304 for downpipes and dump tubes. And 6061 al. for intercooler piping. I'm just getting a feel for the best techniques and such.
So if I was welding a turbo manifold i would just run some argon through the pipe as I am welding? Do i need to plug one end of a pipe to try and contain some of the argon or anything?

What kind of tape do you guys use to hold a cap on your pipes when backpurging? I made the mistake of using duct tape once...SEVERE contamination.
