What do you do to protect your car from getting stolen???
I just bought 91 dx. Finally saved enough money to do B16 swap. Now I'm concern with my car getting stolen. Last week thursday one of my friend's type R integra got atolen right front of his house. Couple years before that he's brother's GSR got stolen after that he bought Type R and that got striped front of their house. What do you guys do to keep the car from the thefts? I live in apartment with no gate.(Like that's gonna help) I just don't wanna spend all the money, and wake up one day looking at empty parking lot.
Buy a house with a garage or take up another hobby (like knitting) and forget all this car stuff.
There are plenty of ideas and products to protect your vehicle...problem is that a good thief can eventually figure out how to circumvent most of them. If they want your car bad enough, they will find a way.
I personally think the best bet is to go sleeper...no body kits, wings, stickers, flashy paint, loud system or exhaust. They all attract attention. Some positive, some negative.
While there are some Honda specific thieves out there, its not usually the case.
You're looking at a few different type of thieves/situations:
1. A simple break-in...they just want crap they can grab or remove/sell fairly easy. The cockroach of thieves. Usually a kid or a crackhead.
2. A theft for joy ride...car will be recovered, mostly whole, with the same parts missing as above and probably some damage from hopping curbs or doing 6k burnouts. Small time, usually a graduate of no.1.
3. A theft for parts/vehicle...never recovered or just a shell. Usually a pro.
So use your head...how can you minimize the appeal to each of these types of theft? The majority of car thieves want to minimize their exposure to danger(or they are stupid enough they'll get caught pretty quick).
Anything that you can do to add time or increase the chance of catching them in the act will help. Hopefully it will be enough to convince them to move on to an easier target.

A good secutiry system on the car. Have the installer hook the horn up so it'll go off when triggered. Several kill relays. The stater kill relay is standard. Have them add a fuel pump kill as well. Make the alarm LED VERY visable. Stealth is also a plus...
a very good alarm system
kill switch or two
remove your ecu when you park ( cant take what they cant start )
quick release with lock ( cant take what you cant steer )
clutch lock
and lojack ( just incase they get it after going through all that )
dont be flashy with the car, watch who you talk to and who you tell what you have. most importantly, becareful where you park.

I use ghetto tactics. I park underneath a street lamp, autolock and club my car, remove my ecu, remove my battery, detach the wire that gives the starter power, then I take my mom's and dad's car and trap my car closely between the two. My car hasn't been stolen yet, but it's quite the hassle. lol.

Quick release steering wheel and hide a fuel cutoff switch somewhere in your car (Under the dash, under the carpet, in the glove box, underneath the shift boot material, under the seat, get creative).

While a kill switch is good advice, it hardly makes your car "100% unstealable". A good thief with a tow truck/flat bed can have your baby loaded and driving off in under 2 minutes. Its more common than you would think...they can use fake repo paperwork if anyone else asks them what they're doing.

well you made your first mistake, you got a civic...then along came the b16, the second mistake you made. your buddy also made a mistabke by buying a gsr and a type r. the only way to 100% protect your car is to not buy one. i've seen stock civics get stolen...wtf?

While this is true, it is completely unrealistic. You'd have to have the nicest car around for that to happen. You'd have to have plenty of work under the hood, and all the ricer **** as well. Take it from a former theif himself, there's noway in hell anyone will go to those lengths JUST to steal a Honda the see around, with flashy paint or no. They wont risk jail time for an unknown amount of profit. Too take a caar by tow takes premeditation, and if you have a car their willing to go through the trouble to fake a towing/repo to steal, your car should be in a garage.
I mean, really though, stealing a car by tow truck is a blatant in your face method, and no ones doin it unless they know for sure their gettin like $10k for the car/parts</TD></TR></TABLE>+
i agree

I agree that most CRX owners won't have this problem...I was talking car theft in general. There are a lot of cars that are worth the effort; ITR, TSX, STi, Evo etc.
Just because you didn't/wouldn't, doesn't mean its not done regularly.

Perhaps you meant NSX? TSX is hardly a dream boat...

Nothing wrong with a TSX...the engine could certainly be used elsewhere.
Here is Austin, you can drive through a lot of high end apartments and see plenty of what I mentioned guarded by nothing more then a car port....which is fine if your car thieves are utilzing parachute insertion.
Some complexes have gates, some don't...I've seen several where they just stay open all the time.

Thats the question what have crossed my mind too.
So last week i bought this Cobra Clobe 3998 car security system. Its one of the best alarms you can buy here.
Then i bought these door lock motors, so i can have a central locking.
To make keyless entry, just swap the old door handles to 4 door civic rear ones. Easy thing to make stealing more difficult. And when they see the alarm's led blinking inside. Even i would not want to try get in. And throw some kill swithes and stuff, so they wont get it running.

just get a pager alarm so when it goes off u can grab your glock. Also get a tilt sensor so it'll go off when theyre trying to tow it.
Some of the crap from my site, if you've never heard of it, I'm sad.

i use a few kill switches, take my ecu out, and take off the steering wheel... hasnt failed me yet... plus my car is an ugly pos... also im basically running open header so the second they start it up my whole house is awake
... my buddy told me he was talking to someone he knows who used to be a car theif and the guy told him that they go out in packs... they wear dark clothes and walk next to cars theyre interested in... as they walk by they knock on the door or kick the tires and look for led's... if they know/think theres an alarm they leave the car alone... so while it wont prevent all thefts an alarm scares off a lot of would-be theives
