Driving Lesson
i been driving stick for 2 years now and i'm a good driver regularly. i can shift into gear smoothly, rev matching downshift, and can keep my car in the vtec zone in all gear. i know racing is not good for your car no matter how good of a driver you are. But are there any tips when racing that will minimize the amount of damage, especially at a track. Please do not put don't race at all. The reason i post this topic is because i know a lot of you, including myself, want to know how others people drive when they race. Anyone with racing tips, like how to shift smoothly at high rpm, are welcome to post.

I wouldn't say it's not good for it. Honda DOHC VTEC engines were designed to rev to 8000rpm and higher. Taking it up there regularly helps keep the insides of the engine clean. You just have to make dang sure you maintain the engine, change oil and coolant regularly and on time, stuff like that. As far as shifting smoothly at high rpm, you just have to make sure you shift fast enough so that the engine speed doesn't fall too low, otherwise when you engage the clutch again the clutch and tranny will have to bring the engine speed back up to match the next higher gear. That doesn't mean you have to shift SUPER fast ALL the time, as that will wear out the synchronizers faster. Just don't shift too slow and you should be fine.
try pushing the rpms to 7800, shifting and staying in the range of the secondaries if you really want to race effectively. on first and second this can be very hard, but anything over 3rd gear is relatively easy to keep the shifts in the 5800-6000rpm range. have fun!!!
