Default Engine quits

Got a 99 Accord Ex and every so often the engine just shuts off.

Had the ignition recall done.

Usually happens within the first 5 minutes of driving, restart immediately and does happen again for a few weeks. When it happens, the engine just shuts off ( doesn't stumble or anything ) and all the idiot lights come on.

The only other thing that seams to be consitant with this fault is when it happens.
It seams to be within the first 5 minutes and Always happens when I am coasting to a stop ie. not under power.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Dirty / Lazy Idle Air Control Motor.
Dirt or crud in the pindle valve portion can artificially close off the idle air passage; causing stalling and hesitation complaints. The drill would be to remove the IACM, clean it, reinstall it and relearn the ECM by momentarily pulling the ECM Fuse; restarting the engine and allowing it to reach operating temp (fans' come on)
or
Main relay.
It is actually two (2) relays in one
First. Operates Fuel Pump
Second: Energizes ECM (Engine Control Module)

That's where I'd look next

?: was it doing that B4 u sent it in for the recall/repair?

if so, bring it back to them so they can check their own work to make sure...

Yup, it was shutting off before I did the ignition recall. I've talked to the service guys at a local dealership and they said they haven't had any repeat problems After the new switch was install.

Hence - bad work? hard to screw that up.
- bad new switch? guess it's possible.
or something else - possiblly along the lines of what P said.

Thanks for the responses

check all of your grounds. I had a loose one and my stuff would turn off intermittently. secured all of the grounds and 50K later still no problems.

WOW... Same problem I'm having! Only, it's 10:30pm, and I'm sitting here at my house 150 miles from base with an Accord that won't run for more than 5 seconds, and I've got to be at work at 7am. Someone PLEASE help this guy out! lol Otherwise, I'll be forced to take tha ole' Ridgeline back to base. But seriously, I'd REALLy like to get this thing running. I'd be willing to Paypal $40 if they can help both of us out with a real fix to this issue.

IACM (Idle Air Control Motor)(#9 in the linked illustration). It's the widget attached to the T/Body - Intake which the computer uses to adjust and maintain the correct 700 rpm at idle. It's actually a stepper motor who's shaft is modified to a tapered point on the end which interacts with a tapered bore and varies bypass air flow thru the t/body to determine Idle speed.
This is the Fuel Injection version of all those cams, linkages and idle up solenoids found on earlier Carburetors.
Unlike Carburetors, which utilized an Idle set screw which adjusted the idle position of the Throttle Butterfly Valve, on a F/I Throttle body the Butterfly Idle position is not adjustable, since the IACM has taken that responsibility
.

Important to note: It will not keep an engine from running off idle. Even if it were to fail all together, the engine would still start if the throttle were held slightly open.
