Default 1988 civic LCA = ITR LCA?

i got a hold of some LCA from a 1988 civic and i heard that they are somewhat identical to the type r LCA...ive seen pictures of the ITR LCA and they indeed look identical but i just want to make sure they are. Are the mounting points the same also? one last question..how much are these worth?

Mounting points are relatively the same. The ongoing question is whether or not the "cup" the shock slides into is the same. In MY experience, the CRX one is a little smaller than the ITR one, such that an ITR shock won't fit into it, but a CRX will fit into an ITR one. Some others have been successful with ITR into CRX though, so I have no idea what the deal is. If you have them off the car, and the shocks off the car, try fitting the shock into that cup. If you can't get it to go in, then I'm right As for price, ITR ones for for $65-80 usually. If ITR shocks won't fit into it though, that price would be less I'd imagine.

thanks for the reply...unfortunately i don't have an ITR strut handy so i can't experiment if they do fit..maybe if someone out there can measure the dimensions?...

Well, the problem seems to be that results aren't consistent. I'll measure the opening size of my ITR LCAs, then if the size is the same for yours they'll fit for sure.

I've heard the cup is somewhat smaller on the 88's, but the dimensions are identical. I have ITR LCA's on my 88 and have no issues.

I've also heard that the cup difference only affects stock shocks, whereas if you have aftermarket shocks they all tend to use the same mounting "ball." For example, koni shocks should be interchangable without an issue. I've never tested this, but its what i've heard from CRX owners.

Also, ITR LCA's are cheaper to buy than 88 LCA's. Don't know why but its true. Look it up for yourself.

They're cheaper new, yes, but used I'd imagine the Rex ones would be cheaper just because they're older and theoretically more available.

While the ones we had were in decent shape, I do get your point.

the 88 is smaller on the shock side of the LCA, however you can get them to work with ITR suspension with some (pipe bender) to make it larger for the larger bushing.

at one time i heard they have the same part number, but i am not sure about this.

for the general 88 crx

I don't believe that's the case.

Unless someone does it sooner, I'll do it Thursday evening.

I'm interested too. Are there differences between CRX DX LCAs and Si LCAs? Those are abundant in local junkyards

All 1988 Civics/CRXs had the JDM (ITR) style LCA. I pulled a set off of a 88 4-door a few years back at the local yard.
