Should be easy. And easy to find a tranny too. I have an 88 tranny sitting around but I don't think that 88's work with 91's.

Hatches had 4 speeds, CRX dx's had 5 speeds.

91 hatch dx's had 5 speed and a center console, 91 Hatch STD model had a 4 speed manual and no center console. I got a 4 speed 91 civic STD, its the lowest base model I think in the world. LOL, it sucks and is very slow.

Correct. My car was frankensteined together and I bought it with a 5th gen d15b8 and a 4spd manual. The swap is easy. Just pull out the 4 speed and put in the 5 speed. Just make sure the transmission you get is from 89-91 because the 88 wont work with your clutch.

You can use an 88 tranny if you also get the flywheel and clutch for the 88 tranny.
