well their paint work is not too bad but ther preperation sucks. they dont scotch their edges good enough so paint starts to flake around ****. they dont pull any molding or handles or windows or rubbers or lights or anything so **** starts flakeing around them.......they just dont waste their time. i mean come on look at the price......you get what you pay for..............just an FYI im not knocking them I just have worked in a bodyshop sence i was 10 and i am now 16. my dad has owned his shop my whole life. and now my brother also owns his own. so i know a thing or two about the automotive industry.

I have a maaco paint job, black. The previous owner did it. Like it was sd earlier your rubber and moldings all get painted. Mine had a couple of drips but all in all for the price. I am happy. Its glossy and Saved it from rusting Im sure.

I am considering a maaco paint job. And I work in the auto body industry and have for awhile now. My thing is though I am doing all my own body work, tearing my car down and preping it all for the paint. Thats the only way I would go to maaco.

for doing your own body/prep work before the paint, and if you've never done it before...grab a friend. It's a good learning experience.

Default so so

some maaco's are better than others, they are independantly owned, usually the $300 job is a single stage paint, usually for $500-600 you can upgrade to base coat +clear coat, looks much better and actually talk to the actual painter at the place $100 tip goes a long way, when you bring it mask everything off and remove all of the lights yourself and make sure you clean the car real good and use some prep all to get all the road tar and junk out of the paint, usually they just wash the car and wipe it down, ive seen paint jobs where they have painted over dirt and crap

i spent 600 on my paint job and its OK, but the prep work does suck *****, and i took my lightsn **** out before hand to reduce over spray, but they sprayed my bulbs... so now i have bitchin red bulbs on one side...

all aside, if you looking for a quick fix for looking better then you did before go for it...

i had my car painted by maaco, fleet white. it looked good at first, minus the overspray on the window. after about 7 or 8 months where the roof meets the windshield at that rubber piece, paint started chipping. its looks really clean when its waxed. but overall...like people say, you get what you pay for.

Everywhere around where I live they quoted me like $5000. It's not Maaco though. Better be worth it...

I know of a guy who will spray 2 and 3 stage jobs for 200$

you buy all the supplies...

paint
masking
prep products

I recently painted a 240sx.. mr2 blue/99 si pearl
for silvia conversion

It took 3 days to mask and prep the car
and less than a day to spray wetsand and buff

supplies $600
time invested 5days (includes disassembly, looking for good paint, lunch breaks)

end result...

the guys car looked like it rolled off the assembly line!!
DIY you'll be surprised

I would read up, buy a HVLP gun, and try it out myself if I were you. Find some little stuff like behind your fenders stuff for practice. Painting really isn't that hard. Prep work and primer selection is the most crutial.

well i have a diffrent take on trying it out on you own.......ok if you want to start to paint your own stuff you may not want to start on your pride and joy. start on somthing simple. also your most expensive part of the whole thing will be the paint, reducer, hardner, pearl(if your doing 3-stage) clear (if your doing base clear). just start out simple. the first think i ever painted was a 1 gal reducer can when i was like 8. now its no big deal to paint a 800 gal. gass tanker all by my self. i guess what im trying to say is that. just look at the jobs that are comming out of teh place that you take your car to. just ask they will let you go see some of thir work.............just do a little research on the place you choose. ...good luck.

just take all your lights and stuff off

it would be better that way.. so you dont have to worry about it chipping in so many places

i know a few people that did that a few years ago and to this day thier paint hasnt peeled yet

You would need a

hvlp gun
buffer
sander
big air compressor
properly tapped up area

Its not that easy.

i have a 88 ef and when i first brought it the paint was faded. I went to Earl Schib and cost me about 500 with dents. Candy Red Mettica and it came out pretty good for a paint job but if u look at it from a angle u can see that the paint job wasnt so good but i was still plased.

I was just saying a HVLP gun so he didn't get one of those cheaper guns that are crappy. Thats also why I said read up, that way he knows all the proper techniques.

I have painted plenty of things, it's not really hard, you just have to take the time and do it right. First couple of things I painted turned out crappy (which is why I painted junk stuff). After about a week I can do a pretty good job. Like I said, prep work and primer are more important than paint.

As a painter/body work friend once told me. "I can take a cheap primer and expensive paint and look like crap, but I can take an expensive primer and cheap paint and make it look like a million dollars."
