Make sure you get the bottom end built right.

I have an LS/VTEC. The block has B16A pistons, ACL bearings, ARP rod bolts, and it is completely balanced, righ down to the clutch and crank pulley.

It will have a much better chance of surviving high rpm pulls than a stock ls would.

hey Mr.s .........so you are using a b18a block with b16a pistons...what rods are you using?
Im building an LS soon but I want it to survive RPM's when I decide to go Vtec in the future.

So basically bottom end balance, better pistons, what kind of rings are you using?

ALso is there any clearancing required on the rod bolts or any other work (im assuming you are going with a different stroke rod)..?

I'm using stock B16A PR3 pistons, with a standard 81mm bore - same as LS. The pistons have a slight dome to them though. I picked them up for 40 dollars canadian, and they give me around 11.3:1 compression. Here's a pic of what they look like in my LS block:

You can see how they'd give me much more compression than the flat top LS pistons.

Check out this site: http://www.c-speedracing.com/h...c.php

As for rods, I'm using stock b18A LS rods (PR4). They were also balanced. You can get yours shot peened for extra strength, but I didn't bother. Here's more info: http://www.reliable.ab.ca/shop....html

As for the ARP rod bolts, you need to get a machine shop to install them, since installing them actually distorts the rod; it needs to be re-shaped to accomodate this. Make sure you find an engine builder that knows how to do this.

I used standard Honda B series rings (for B16A though I'm pretty sure they're all the same, except for B20).

I also went with ACL LS bearings because I was running out of money and the Honda bearings were backordered like hell, but I would go OEM honda if you can.

When you go LS/VTEC, use B series VTEC Oil pump, pickup, water pump, and get a timing belt for a GSR or ITR (ITR is usually cheaper, for some reason). Also use GSR ARP Head studs, they're cheaper than OEM bolts.

to survive rpm:
you should get your rods shot peen'd $5 per rod at any performance shop. and get arp rod bolts $35, my gf bought me some for my birthday + arp head bolts. mine held good to 9000rpm all day long

if you want to use any B16A/B18c pistons with ls rods:
you will have to mill the top part of the rod (where the wrist pin goes) 0.040" on each side (at least thats how much i took off). get this done when you get your rods shot peend

get a good oil line if yoru going cheap styles, steel braided at least a -6
