car smokes/burns/spits oil after new valve job - bad rings?
Ok so a few weeks ago I had my head redone with new oem valve seals and new intake valves since the stock ones were damaged from burning oil so long. The only thing that was done to the head for performance was a 3 angle valve job. Valve train is otherwise stock. The cylinder walls also looked good. I was told that there were no scratches. Motor is h22a4 with 95,000 miles w/o cat.
The car is smoking and spitting oil, and burns even more now than before. Last I measured I went through a quart of 10w40 in 300 miles. Prior to getting the valve job I had a copmression and leak down test done which showed no blow by and solid numebers. The PCV valve is also less than 10,000 miles old. What is odd is that from reading alot of threads most people mention smoking at high rpm in vtec under full throttle. I actually notice more smoke when I'm in 3rd gear @ 2500rpm under partial throttle. I also notice the most smoke when im taking off rom a light after getting off the highway or driving for a good distance - I leave a big blue puff!
I was told that even with good compression numbers and no blow by, my oil control rings could be gone causing me to burn oil yet show good compression. Could they be responsible for burning and smoking that much? Also is there any way that getting the valve seals done and fixing that proble could speed up the deterioration of the piston rings? What else could be behind this. Im very puzzled so I'm open to anything. Thanks.

When you guys got your heads back and re-torqued them on properly
... you did adjust the valves right? THere are some really little rubber gaskets on the head too if they get squished/pinched/or if they bathed the head to clean it will have desintegrated, maby look at a pic of the head n' u can see. Besides that i dunno just a few guesses. GL

they either botched your valve seal installation, or your rings are bad. I highly doubt you've got enough of a CR to cause that much blow-by
When they replaced the valves did the replace the valve guides? Not changing the valve guides after changing valves may cause misalginment and detroy the new seals you got.
here is a link to the vid I took. It was taken after the car had been running for around ten minutes.

i know a couple of things.
1 - your car smells like a burning oil field.
2 - the work done on the car is top notch, so my vote goes to rings. i know that PCV valve was fine, it was on my car and did nothing wrong.
